Pilots can double jump and wallrun, they ain't Pilots.

Had a couple of goes last night, not bad but definitely no TF. Controls feel weird to me.

It controls the exact same as Titanfall only you can't double jump or wall run. Like...it's the exact same feeling, even the run animation and sliding is lifted from TF. I have no idea how you think it 'controls' weird when its the same game if you don't press A twice and/or jump into a wall. I think it's pretty good and at least as good as Blackout.

My only issue in the 2 goes I had was the fire fights were very few and far between.

They started it with TF and CoD butchered it, so I blame CoD.

I...what...is this from the official account?

Seems like they’re going for absolute honesty. It’s not a good look.

It's better than the hand-wringing mealy-mouthed statements about "player choice" and "pride and accomplishment", like they're doing you a favour somehow by giving you many ways to give them lots of money for digital trinkets. I guess we're at the point where companies can just outright declare that they want all of you money and people will lap it up - at least for now/long enough to pay out their shareholders.

....or Maybe Respawn want to make a reasonable profit and potentially save themselves from being shut down. I have no problem with that tweet tbh, I mean, it's not factually wrong, TF2 was aces but sold terribly but that's partially down to EA releasing it between CoD and BF.

That tweet wasn't from the official account btw.

From the Eurogamer interview:
"When we started [Apex Legends] we were building off Titanfall 2, and we didn't know we weren't going to have double jump or wall running or titans," he tells me. "The choice to not have those came about because of play-testing against our goals: to have a strategic, learnable, masterable, deep game.

"[We had] things like wall running and double jumping for a long time, we had triple jump for a while, they make combat really hard to beat and comprehend. You can't predict where players come from or you're pushing them to, and things would happen to you more than you would predict and respond against. So it's really fun to do, but it's really bad for combat legibility."

My brief experience is that encounters are a lot more frequent in this than in Fortnite, H1Z1, or what I've seen of PUBG. The map shrinks very quickly so you quickly come up against others it seems to me.

This is fantastic. I've only put a few hours in but I'm pretty confident in saying it's the most polished and well designed battle royale game so far. The fundamental shooting and feedback is as good as you'd expect from Respawn. There's a ton of extremely clever quality of life additions here that make playing it a lot more enjoyable than other games in the genre. The ping system allows for quick and easy but specific communication. Being able to mark and call dibs on items is great, as is being able to call out items you're lacking and actively looking for. Dropping in formation as a team. Weapon attachments transferring when you swap. The risk/reward respawn mechanic that can either significantly boost or diminish your odds of doing well. Automatic callouts from characters and the announcer that are actually useful. And that's not even mentioning the character specific abilities, which are really neat to see in a battle royale environment.

I do hope they reconsider having wall running and a double jump as I think they'd feel right at home here. Apart from that, this has made a very strong first impression.

I've put in a gooseberry fool ton of hours into TF2 (And 1) across all platforms and it feels off.

Some of the improvements over Blackout are pretty good. They could be considered small but really enhance the fun factor.

The ping system is excellent, telling a team to go to a point, location of loot, and also where enemies are is all easily handled. It's a feature I can see PUBG, Blackout and Fortnite ripping off.

In Blackout and PUBG when you have an AR (for example) kitted out with attachments and want to use a diff AR you have to detach and re-attach to new AR which is especially fiddly in Blackout but in this they just carry over...simple things like this make it more immediate.

I'm gonna download it and give it a go, as I loved TF2.
Kinda disappointed there's no wall running and titans and that would add more personality to the game and make it stand out from the rest of the crowd, but from that trailer it looks like a CoD rip off/

Lets not start the rip off debate, they're essentially all ripping off PUBG really.

PUBG wasn't the first battle royale game

Another road to go down....okay, it was the first succesful one and its creator, was the creator of the H1Z1 and Arma Mod one. Jees...

Also, it was the first standalone BR game...

From Wiki:
While Battlegrounds was not the first battle royale game, its release to early access in March 2017 drew a great deal of attention, selling over twenty million units by the end of the year, and is considered the defining game of the genre

I don't want to debate it either, I just couldn't let you get away with saying "let's not start the ripoff debate" only to accuse every other game of ripping off PUBG :P

(FWIW Minecraft Hunger Games was my first experience of a battle royale like experience)

The point being that, if PUBG didn't exist, BR would not be a thing other than in the mod community.

Maybe, or maybe another game would have come along and done something similar from the gaming zeitgeist.

'Everyone thought we were making Titanfall 3 but we were actually making this!'

Wow, another battle royale game. Big gap in the market for that. At least Titanfall was kind of unique as series go. I have to assume this was a decision pushed by corporate rather than the developers themselves.

Seriously, most of the guys directing these studios should be fired. Picking a market already saturated and dominated by other companies is literally one of the worst business strategies I can think of. You may as well just invest all your money in lottery tickets.
