So two of my team quit before the drop, and I thought 'strawberry float it, I'll see where I can get to'. Only made it to the final ring didn't I? Me versus one other guy. And then I gooseberry fool the bed. :x

I had a game on this yesterday, seeing as everyone's raving about it, and it's definitely a battle royale game, I guess.

Aside from it being very polished, it really didn't feel that different to me than PUBG or Fortnite, (no building, obviously,) with you getting dropped somewhere, scavenging for loot, spending a lot of time wandering about not seeing anyone else, then getting killed as soon as you encounter another squad.

I thought briefly, with this being a "hero shooter" you wouldn't be scavenging for weapons, but that's not the case, and any character can use any gun. How you're supposed to know what gun feels like what I don't know. I picked up a machine gun, and another machine gun, got them both kitted out with blue add ons, then when it came time to fight, one of them had a gooseberry fool rate of fire and a tiny magazine, which was fun to discover while being shot at. From the training level, it looks like there are just gooseberry fool loads of different variants on the same type of gun, three shotguns, loads of machine guns, a ton of pistols. At least Fortnite's weapons were fairly visually distinct so you knew how they'd work from how they Look. I just don't like looting in these games. When you're potentially going to get shot at any time, I don't want to be spending my time stationary while comparing gun stats.

Not a fan of it being squads only either, because I'm bad at it and I know it, so I get anxious that I'm running the game for competent period who actually know what they're doing.

tl;dr: I still don't like battle royale games, or online shooters in general.

I said almost the exact same thing earlier in the thread, it takes a little while before things settle down. It's definitely worth sticking at it, the game is genuinely excellent and when you get in that great squad and everything clicks, there's nothing else like it.

Not sure how everyone else plays but I try to find an assault rifle (Flatline or Hemlok) and a shotgun (preferable the Peacemaker, though the EVA-8) is ok too. Occasionally I'll pick up a Longbow sniper rifle, or a Wingman if I find the Skullpiercer add-on.

Sticking to these means I can ignore all other types of ammo except Heavy and Shotgun, and quickly identify parts that I need. If something glows blue or pink it's usually decent, go grab it. I recommend landing somewhere remote for a few tries so you can loot without fear of getting murdered in seconds.

I'm gonna give this game a break for a for weeks I think, ever since the 'masses' (people who only usually play cod and GTA) started playing it I've been paired with some absolute idiots. Last game I dropped a guy a gun on the floor, marked it, he picked up the ammo and left the gun despite having no fun already, then proceeded to try and go lunch the enemy to death.

Game before that I'm jump master and the other two just jump out on their own, game before that one guy jumps out on his own absolutely miles away.

Hopefully in a few weeks these people will have either learned how to play or stopped playing.

Trying to restrict myself to playing in at least a pair for the same reason.

In any other game I wouldn't mind too much, but matches in this game are so time consuming.

Also, there's definitely something up with the netcode in this game. Battle (non) Sense did an analysis and it's by far the worst performing battle royale game. Would explain why a few times my purple Sheild and health have just disappeared within half a second, or I've been shot by people I can't see.

On the main menu in the bottom left where is says "play Apex", click on that and change it to "training". There's. Shooting range with all the guns lying around.

Even when I play with a pre made I just find this game really draining. There's so much dead time. I just want to practice with the guns. The time I spend standing around in Apex I could have played 2 matches in Titanfall.

I usually like high time to kill games because they put more emphasis on skillful shooting, but in this game so much is out of your control, it feels like you're rolling a dice every time you play a match. Like if you and an enemy find the same gun, but they find a higher level Sheild than you, you lose.

I guess that's just a general problem with battle royale games, but playing this a bit more has made that more apparent to me. I HATE games where there's is nothing you could have done to change the outcome of a match,
or luck plays a big factor, andd this game makes me feel like that almost every match.

At least it's rekindled my love for Titanfall. If they every introduce a round based 3 Vs 3 side mode I'll probably be back playing this but I can't see myself playing this again anytime soon.

I played this last night and got matched up with a level 38 dude with like 300+ kills, I thought to myself "nice one, he'll know what to do". He spent entire game running off on his own, sure he got 2 kills but then died cos we couldn't help him cos he was too far away. Seems to me this dude probably plays like this all the time, he has no interest in winning just getting kills. :?

I'd say luck does play a factor in all BR games but not more than most MP games. I mean, if you play enough of any BR you know were the decent loot will be or at least have a higher chance of everyone getting enough stuff. That's the risk v reward mechanic in effect, the more loot available the higher risk others will be there also. The biggest piece of luck in BR's is the final few circles as they can change the outcome dramatically.

Okay but realistically you cannot pick and choose what loot you get, so if you drop next to someone of a similar skill and they get a better gun or a Sheild, you are dead, and that doesn't feel very good.

Bad team mates just compound the issue.

I'm pretty sure there is only 2 types of shotgun (unless you adding in the shotty pistol) but fairy nuff.

If you don't like online shooters or BR in general, don't know why you bothered even downloading it.

That's true, but I do like trying the current "in thing" as much as I can just to keep up to date and not slip into the "I only play this type of game" mindset. Fear of getting old and stale, I guess :slol:

Played some more of this, just don't feel it at all.

I like that it is hero based, but I find myself defaulting to pathfinder just for the grapple hook making traversal more fun (I still can't get over losing the double jump and wall running from Titanfall 2 when it otherwise feels identical).

I find myself hating looting weapons much more than in Fortnite, and as Knoyleo says that is in part down to how much less readable the weapons and their differences are in this game. As far as I can tell you can't see stats anywhere, with weapon damage or DPS, and trying to learn the weapons and what you are good with is difficult when you have to use what you get and when the various combinations of addons/mods makes such a big difference. There is nothing satisfying about the looting loop.

Combat is fun when it is close quarters run and gunning. Time outside of combat is not fun. The most fun I've had has been dropping in straight away and trying to play the game like a straight up FPS, but it's just... a not as good version of Titanfall, where you have to wait 5 minutes to respawn as opposed to a couple of seconds.

I played a lot of Fortnite, despite never being enamoured with the game. I don't see myself playing much of Apex. I actually think I'd rather play H1Z1 as a battle royale game.

At least I have Tetris 99

If you don't like the looting system in this, you'll HATE it in Black out, I mean this outshines blackouts looting in every single way possible. I really like this and it's easily into our online rotation along with PUBG which (to me at least) is still the BR closest to my type of online shooter.
