Happy belated birthday! And what a way to win to boot!

Thanks! :toot: My partner was laughing at our stats when that came up on screen. Especially as she had heard us just desperately running away the whole time due to a bad drop.

JChalmers wrote:Well our first ever wins tonight. Managed to get 2 of them, which isn't bad baring in mind it was our 2nd night playing it haha.

Very quickly becoming one of my fav games to play at the moment.

Got the Peacekeeper in one of the item drop pods and it rinsed at close range, ended up finishing as the Kill Leader too!

Nice! A very healthy win and I barely ever hit those stats. Let me know when you hit level 10 and I'll invite you to the GRcade club.

You probably noticed this but aiming down sights with the peacekeeper tightens the spread of bullets, meaning you can hit for 100+ damage waaay further. Like mid-range, 50m+ kind of distance. Check it out in the firing range!

Cheers! I've had a few games where I've hit 7, 8, 9 kills. Think because when I played Warzone I played quite agressively anyway. Thing I like about Apex, very little camping from people. Duos in Warzone half the teams were hiding in a roof and just sniped you/killed you as you entered the building unaware. Feels like with Apex it's alot more action based and teams want to fight.

I'm past lvl 10 if you want to add me to the club!

Added you! I'd also recommend joining the GR discord and giving yourself the Apex role, for easy access to potential squadmates.

I think camping is just not a viable tactic in this due to the higher time to kill and huge third party risk. It's super easy to locate someone once they've fired a shot.

Also is anyone on here "Dismalkostas" ? I have received a club invite from them but dunno who they are. Giz a shout if you know who this is!

In the bottom left you can choose game types - choose "training" or "firing range".

Also happy to show you the ropes sometime!

Cheers, found it in the end! :fp:

Definitely up for giving this a go with anyone on here, feels like the kind of game that won't quite work so well with randoms!

Actually the in-depth pinging system makes it sort of okay to play with random as you don't need a headset etc. And can communicate fairly well. Asking for ammo and attachments you need, spotting enemies, saying you're going to attack etc. are all handled in game.

That said its miles better playing in an actual squad. I'm not that good but I have a lot of fun in this game and am very up for playing whenever - join the discord and give yourself the Apex role! And when you hit level 10 I'll add you to the GR club.

Yeah I remember being impressed by the ping system when I first gave this a try last year, seems like a nice quick way to communicate key information to your team.

Managed to play a bit with the training section and firing range to get a feel for things, then I ended up in some kind of mode where nobody seemed to be killing each other. Not sure if it's just something put in there to let you get a feel for the map before playing a real game?

Yep! A limited time mode which ends today/tomorrow for the new Olympus map. Deffo worth playing about with characters in there and seeing how they interact. Also seeing where good landing places are.

I'll likely be on from about 7.30 tonight if anyone fancies some casual games where I get us killed by being too aggressive without the skills to back it up?

Don't know why but the last two nights have been the sweatiest duo lobbies we've been in. We've gone from competing the first two nights quite well against everyone to going up against full blown pros and dying within seconds. Think there wasn't a single game in the last couple of nights we actually felt like we were in a level-playing field. One game we played against a duo who had over a 1,000 wins each

You're out of the noob servers now mate. Hang in there!

EDIT: It's quite well documented (and controversial in the community) that this has Skill based matchmaking even in non-ranked. It's largely to stop new people being discouraged I think. You might want to try your luck with Ranked (though that's trios only).

Isn't the whole point of matchmaking supposed to be to remove these kinds of massive imbalances?

Yeah we guessed it was skill based matchmaking coming into effect, but we thought after getting rinsed the on tuesday night that last night we'd be sent back down to the noob servers again but it seemed to get even tougher, almost to the point it was unenjoyable just dying repeatedly. We're giving it another go tonight to see what's what. We did discuss ranked as well even if its with a random third but we'll see how we go.

I'd suggest have a few hot drops at the beginning of your session where you know and accept you're going to die straight away. It'll help give you an idea of good loot placements and give you relatively more combat experience than a "normal" match.

My K:D ratio is about 0.8 and I'm happy with that. I still have a lot of fun even though I lose a lot - you just get into some of the most fun fights in this game, even if you lose. I love some of the scenarios I find myself in.

Happy to team up sometime (even though I'm bad!)

Also, a large portion of this game is not about who is mechanically better at shooting. Getting the positional advantage and engaging first is so so important. Get used to running away or finding a better position if you're shot out of the blue. I'm sure you know this but I have to really train myself to not just stand there and fire back.

If you're really really keen there's a great youtuber called "Coach Nihil" and I like watching his videos where he explains the importance of line of sight or what you should be thinking about in the heat of battle etc.

Yeah, mine is about 0.79 and I usually make it to the latter stages. Though do get runs of bad games too! It also helps a lot when you get to know the map better, you'll have more good games than bad. I'm a bit lost myself with the new map at the mo!

Here are your champions...

Myself, aayl1, and Mafro managed a Trios win this afternoon.

Videos of the end game from my perspective and from aayl1's:

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
