My Lenovo laptop Y510p died after a couple of years. I had been given 3 years warranty for free so got an Y700 for nothing. Cracked the screen and took it back to John Lewis to see how much they'd charge for a new one. They couldn't replace the screen so they destroyed my laptop and gave me a brand new Y700. I currently have serious resovations about Lenovo but can vouch for John Lewis's customer service.

If you press play the clickbait thumbnail will vanish and you'll hear further evidence of Apple's twattishness toward paying customers and authorised repair outfits.

Is it that guy who intentionally strawberry floated his Mac right after the thing launched and then went on a massive whine because Apple couldn't repair it?

This guy?

He made that because someone accidentally broke it and Apple wouldn't repair it. (The opening is a Bad Dramatisation. Apologies for pointing that out but, going by part 2, some people failed to realise that.)

I want to spend thousands on tech and not feel entitled to good customer service. I'd feel so spesh.

Maybe you should just take better care of your stuff.

As far as I remember, didn't Linus actually take the thing apart, then strawberry float it up by putting it back together wrong, then moan when Apple wouldn't replace it? I mean, no doubt Apple's "We don't have the parts or expertise to fix our own products" is shitty, but this isn't something that's going to affect the average Joe (especially as the whole thing revolves around a $10 000 machine).

They accepted it at the store then the store said apple HQ wouldn't release the parts.

It feels like there is a part of the story missing here. If they took it in then they can repair it, if they requested parts they are able to get the bits to the store.

My bed is that because this chucklet strawberry float took it apart they have said no and wont release bits because Apple doesn't like "normal" people poking about in devices. Had it been a genuine accident I imagine they would have repaired it.

Who cares if he took it apart or intentionally broke it? He wants to pay to get it fixed and Apple said no, how is that in any way defensible?

Yeah, thank strawberry float they're not screwing over everyday users by lobbying / straight up lying to American politicians re repairs and impounding generic parts which are heading over to *gasp* unauthorised engineers.

Funny how quiet this thread was when Apple confirmed to covering up iP6 flaws. But a YTer dared to make a clickbait thumbnail *and* opened up a computer he paid for?! /pitchforks

 :fp:

I really dislike Apple as a company, especially due to their attitude towards Right to Repair (to which this example has nothing to do with at all) but this is a bad example of how terrible they are. Linus is a showboating YouTube clickbaiter, and I have no interest in anything he has to say as it has zero credibility.

btw Apple announced a free keyboard service program but weirdly it doesn't seem to have been posted in the thread yet https://www.apple.com/uk/support/keyboa ... cbook-pro/

Apple has determined that a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors:

Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
Letters or characters do not appear
Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service eligible MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboards, free of charge. The type of service will be determined after the keyboard is examined and may involve the replacement of one or more keys or the whole keyboard.

You mean to say that their please use compressed air tip wasn't good enough?!

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/ht205662

The program covers eligible MacBook and MacBook Pro models for 4 years after the first retail sale of the unit.

4 years +1 day and they'll bleed you like a pig for something which they knew was poorly designed from the get go. But hey, thanks for the crumbs, Apple.

How the hell is getting uppy that someone dared open SOMETHING WHICH THEY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR a terrible example of Apple's seemingly ever inventive ways of screwing consumers over? And just think about it: if they're willing to shaft someone with Linus and Snazzy Lab's reach then why would they do better for your regular consumer? Why do they deserve a pass? Because Linus stole a sanitary towel?

As I say, I dislike Apple and am aware of their issues but this example is completely inconsequential due to the sources involved.
