Did they have pre-preorders available this time like with the phones? I had to take a few minutes configuring the body and strap and when I was done it was still saying 15th, but by the time I’d left the app to authorise payment and returned it’s gone to November.

No pre-config this time. Mine is due early November too. I could have collected in-store next Friday, but strawberry float that, after the iPad debacle. I think initial stock was extremely limited.

What did you go for?

45mm midnight aluminium with the sports band. I also had the option to collect in store next Friday but my local Apple store is a 90 min drive away.

Ended up cancelling with Apple and ordering from Curry’s (who are still saying launch day delivery). I imagine they have some vanilla config stock that they are already sending to their stores and other retailers, while the new Apple store orders for delivery are broader configurations and basically “to order”, even if you ultimately order a plain config.

I get 6% off in Curry’s through work so it’s worked out cheaper too

Managed to pick up some first gen AirPods today for quite cheap. Much prefer them to the Pros. Although the latter had *exceptional* ANC and transparency modes, they were possibly the most uncomfortable buds ive ever used. gooseberry fool out of luck for having small ears, I guess.

Don’t think it was the tips that were the issue. The main part of the pros would leave my outer ears really red.

Apple event announced for Monday:

Image

Sounds like this is going to be for the Macbook Pro a lot of people, including myself, have been patiently waiting years for. The rumours so far suggest:

14" 3024 x 1964 and 16" 3456 x 2234 (native retina 2K) mini-LED display with reduced bezels
120Hz ProMotion
M1X chip with 10-core CPU
16GB RAM and 512GB SSD on base configurations
16 and 32-core GPU configurations
1080p Webcam
SD Card reader
HDMI port
MagSafe
USB-C/Thunderbolt ports
No Touch Bar

Sounds expensive.

Out of interest, what work would you need to do on a laptop with those specs that the 13 inch MacBook Pro couldn't do? Or is it just a screen size thing?

Screen is definitely one of the big selling points. I'm currently making do with a £200 14" HP Stream (and have done for 4 increasingly torturous years) and I hate it. I used to have a 16 inch Sony, and prior to that 17.5.

The webcam on the Stream has unsurprisingly been a complete embarrassment ('is your webcam from 1999?') and to be able to do some gaming on a computer again would be nice too.

I have been making use of Numbers on my iPad Air 2 but it doesn't take long for it to struggle, and it's only gotten worse since the update (has anyone else with an older iPad noticed the latest OS has slowed it right down?).

Wow that's a massive jump in price. Are they still keeping the 13in or is that being phased out?
Even with my friend who works at Apple store with a discount it's still crazy expensive.

Although I could sell my late 2017 non Touch Bar 13in mbp to contribute to it. I just got the keyboard replaced last week under the scheme which came with new battery as top case was replaced. Was lucky I took it in with just 1 month left before I would have had to pay once it's over 4yrs old. I'm guessing eBay would be best rather than trade in to Apple.

New AirPods - dunno why you'd buy these when you can get the Pros from Amazon for only £20 more
HomePod mini new colours - cool if you like that
New MacBook Pros - absolute beasts. Last year's M1 chip was already mental so god knows what these will be like

Just imagine how quickly influencers will be able to update their socials using those new Macbook Pros.

They've been staffing themselves silly

It really is incredible what power they have over the average consumer.

Fair enough being into Apple products the same as someone may be into cars for example, but there is no way an average laptop user needs anything near those specs.

Exactly. Total overkill for most users.

Some more info on how this notch is going to work:

Image

When applications, videos and games are in full-screen mode, macOS places an artificial black bezel at the top of the display or the macOS Menu Bar, therefore allowing more screen space for users.

Apparently it's going to turn up on the new Air next year as well.

How does placing an artificial black bezel instead of a real bezel allow more screen space? More marketing bollocks from Apple

Edit: Did you pre-order a 16 inch KK?

I think (and people more familiar with MacOS can correct me here) it raises the menu bar above what would have been the normal screen area so you get a centimetre or whatever it is more space to play with? Something like this?

Image
Or am I understanding it wrong?

And no, not yet. I'm waiting for reviews, and if possible if I can see it in-person at Currys. I'm not sure about this notch. If I buy it this will be my laptop for probably the next 8 years or something. I don't want to be stuck staring at that notch and hating it.

If previous years are any indication, resellers like KRCS tend to take around £200 off the RRP around Thanksgiving.
