You should give AutoSleep and AutoWake (Watch App) a try. I find them better than the build-in sleep tracking and it gives you a lot more info like your periods of light and deep sleep and average BPM. The smart alarm in the watch app is really good too, it detects your lightest period of sleep closest to when your alarm is set and wakes you up closest to this within 15 minutes (you can customise this for anything up to half an hour before I think)

For the guys who picked up the iPad Mini 6 - how are you getting on with it after a few weeks?

Costco have knocked money off the new Macbooks already: https://www.costco.co.uk/Computers/Lapt ... c/cos_16.1

The 14" M1 Pro is £1,749.99, 16" 512GB is £2,229, 1TB £2,399.89 and M1 Max is £3,049.99.

£15 12 month membership is required though (online only; higher fee if you want to purchase in-store).

Geekbench testing on the M1 Pro:

Apple has offered up both the 2021 MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 with a comprehensive selection of M1 Pro and M1 Max SoC configurations. The M1 Pro can be configured with either 8 or 10 CPU cores and comes with 14 or 16 GPU cores, depending on the MacBook Pro model chosen. New Geekbench listings show the 10-core M1 Pro in action while some compute-related records have scores available for the chip with a 16-core GPU part. Unsurprisingly, the M1 Pro outscores the older M1 Apple Silicon across the board, which should be expected for a processor with generally more CPU and GPU cores. The graphics/compute scores in particular could potentially herald a new era for casual Mac gaming on the go.

The M1 Pro tests show a score pattern of around 1,750 points for Geekbench 5 single-core and about 12,100 points for multi-core (current averages would have been artificially lowered by a seemingly outlier of a record). This would leave the new Apple Silicon at the top of the Geekbench Mac single-core chart while destroying anything with an M1 in it in the multi-core chart. A more-refined manufacturing process (5 nm vs. 14 nm for the Intel processor) even allows the M1 Pro to demolish the Intel Core i9-10910 that can be found in the 2020 27-inch iMac. The Apple SoC and its 10-core CPU has a +40.68% (single) and a +34.30% (multi) advantage over the 10-core Comet Lake desktop chip while not being nearly as power hungry.

As for graphics, the M1 Pro has been tested in both OpenCL and Metal. Yet again, the M1 Pro destroys anything by the M1, which is hardly a surprise considering the differences in GPU configuration. The average Metal score for the M1 Pro with 16-core GPU over three separate records is 41,371 while a single entry reveals an OpenCL mark of 36,664 points (over 38,000 points has been reported though). The M1 OpenCL scores position the Apple Silicon neatly between the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 with Max-Q Design (36,196) and the GeForce GTX 1650 (38,361). However, it is way behind the nearest Ampere SKU, the GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU, which is in the OpenCL chart with 45,898. Those who want that level of graphics performance or higher will be better off selecting an M1 Max MacBook Pro.

My iPhone 6s has finally decided to completely die on me. I can't get it to turn on at all. It's been plugged in for the last 3 hours and it's still stuck on the battery charging graphic.

Any way to get this thing turned on? In CSI this is where they'd be talking bollocks about some hidden battery override feature.

Tried charging it from a different USB socket? Or using a different cable?

I'm using one of Apple's 10w Power adapters, though I've now connected it to a battery pack to see if that's any better. I've been having battery problems with the phone for a while (the percentage indicator is incorrect, so it can go from 100% to 50% in minutes, but can also sometimes hang on 1% for an hour or more) but now it's just completely collapsed. I've ordered an iPhone 13 Mini, but that has a wait time of a month.

Worth checking local Argos stores for stock, if you haven’t already. You might just get lucky and find the model you’re after.

Also Carphone Warehouse, where I got mine, seem to have quite a few configurations in stock, for delivery tomorrow.

Classic Argos, this. I want to use them because on paper they're super convenient (plus Nectar points), but in reality their stock system drives me round the twist.

Currys do indeed have it in stock for delivery though.

Fake edit: Get to the delivery page and it's out of stock. :fp:

Argos rarely, if ever, have the item I'm after in stock locally or for home delivery. Barely ever bother using them any more.

Just looking at trade-in prices on the Apple Store for my 2017 15inch Pro. £450 when I could probably get close to double that just selling it, especially since it got a new keyboard and battery replacement during a repair not long ago. If I was fully on campus for uni I probably would have used it towards an M1 Air but I might just wait and see what the next refresh of that looks like.

Yeah usually payment is taken when the item is shipping out.

Cheers. Hoped that would be the case. I'll keep an eye on it.

Got the first text from DHL, but it’s still saying estimated delivery of Friday. Got a second text saying they’d collected it and I can see why it’s going to take so long. It’s coming direct from China! Still, it’s a few days earlier than first estimated when I ordered.

Can anyone tell the difference between iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 pro's 120hz screen? Was at the apple store trying both phones out and I can hardly notice anything even when scrolling text...

I'm looking to upgrade my iPhone X. I am only concerned about the 120hz screen as not bothered about the better camera.
Thanks

Iphone 13's screen is 60hz which means the screen refreshes 60 times per second

iPhone 13 pro's screen is 120hz which results in a smoother look.

If you've been to the apple store and couldn't tell the difference, and aren't bothered by the extra camera etc on the Pro, the 13 will be enough for you.

Loving it. Use it a lot with a pencil for uni instead of a notebook.

Helps a lot with saving battery power too.

I'm getting the missus an iPhone 13 Mini for her birthday next month, it looks very impressive, but most importantly will fit in the small pockets that girl jeans seem to have.

As she is forever dropping phones and damaging them I'm going to opt for a minimalist case.
Has anyone had any hands on experience with the Mous Clarity cases? Are they really as good as their extreme videos make them out to be?

I use Spigen cases for my iPhones and they are around 10-12 pounds. I drop my phone all the time and the case with tempered glass screen protector does the trick.

Just ordered a iPad 9th gen from ElekDirect (the AO outlet store) for £240. Absolutely mental price and I've been after an iPad for a while. At less than half the price of the mini I just couldn't resist.

Nice, aside from my work laptop my iPad is my most used computer. Is that the base model from this year? That is a crazy price, yes it doesn’t have the crazy mini led 120hz screen of the pro iPad but even the base iPads have nice screens. My stepdaughter uses the base model from last year that she got for Christmas and it looks pretty sharp like.

Customer returns, open box, essentially new but opened etc. if there are any scratches etc, there will be a double discount on the listing and the defect in bold red lettering. They have a fantastic returns policy too so if you’re not happy however the item arrives you just arrange return free of charge.

Anyone regret getting the larger screen iPhones? I got the iPhone 13 pro but still within my 14 day period to swap it for a max.
I'm just concerned it's too big to carry around. But it would be fantastic for YouTube.
