Seeing some weird behaviour from my 4K Apple TV today. Twice putting it to sleep made it totally unresponsive (prompting an unplug to power cycle). And my remote’s completely dead. It might just need charged but I haven’t had any battery low warnings lately at all.

I ended up buying a MBP 14in but have not opened it. Going to go back to John Lewis tomorrow and exchange it for the MBA instead. I just can't justify an extra 900 for additional power and features that I don't need.

Update
I slept on it and decided to keep it because I want to future proof it in terms of the outer shell and overall design. The air just looks too dated with that old chassis from 2011 and a dimly lit screen of 400 nits.
Also the thinner screen bezel and the mini led display of the pro for watching Netflix and YouTube for the next 5 years that I will keep it for.

Went for the Air in the end :fp: and I'm very happy with it. It seems like a decent improvement over to my 4 year old MBP.

Mine has been working normally with no issues at all, I don’t think it’s had the latest update unless it did it on its own in the night

Got the iPhone 13 pro the other day coming from an 11 pro and it’s great. Honestly though biggest upgrade from the 11 was that I picked the 256gb model. Coming from the 64gb where I was running out of space constantly being able to download pretty much all the games I want and save my music offline is great!

Pro motion and the new cameras are really neat too but I will always say to get a pro with larger storage over a pro max for roughly the same price and less storage.

Picked up a new M1 Air last week to replace my 2014 MacBook Pro.

It’s beautiful

New MacBook Air with M2 announced tonight, along with a few surprising game announcements. Resident Evil Village, GRID Legends and No Man’s Sky all on their way to Mac.

My partner decided she wanted an iPad mini instead of her iPad Pro m1 as she barely used it as she doesn’t like big tablets. So I’ve got it now magic keyboard and all as she kindly gave it to me instead of selling it. It’s an impressive machine and the trackpad works way better than I thought it would. Crazy that this little tablet probably outperforms my work laptop. I’d say when it comes to portable computing thermals are key and apple have that gooseberry fool locked down. My thinkpad is only 3 years old and gets HOT. Different workloads I know but the MacBook Air only has passive cooling as well.

So I’m an Apple bitch now.

My iPad Air seems to have a very annoying bug that has only started a few days ago.

It seems to be triggered by having too much light hitting the screen and it auto dims the screen to the point where it looks like the screen has been turned off. YouTube videos etc still play, sound comes out and I can pause a video but I need to move the iPad to somewhere less bright to turn the screen back on. :x

My iPhone 13 Mini has a tendency to do that on a bright hot day too.

It's infuriating! Tried using it this morning with the curtains open and it's not nearly as hot as previous days and somewhat cloudy today too. Had to move away from the window and/or shut the curtains to use it.

I bought it from John Lewis less than 2 years ago and they've got a 2 year warranty which might well come in very handy since it seems to be getting worse (I tried turning the brightness up with the curtains shut and now it basically auto switches the screen off before I can unlock it change the brightness). "It just works". :x

I actually do this on purpose for street photography holding my phone at my side and using the volume keys to snap some shots. Most people don’t like having a phone pointed at them in public :shifty:

I think this is more likely due to the heat of the device. The screen produces a lot of heat itself, so when the device gets hot, like if it’s in direct sunlight, it will ramp the maximum brightness down.
I used to get that on my phone when driving with it in a phone holder. Sun shining through the windscreen on a hot day, Bluetooth audio, GPS for maps, etc. phone gets very toasty. I would point the aircon at it and blast it to cool down and the screen would very quickly get noticeably brighter.

Yep, I have noticed my iPad (an old pro) does this when its very warm and in bright light. As you say the brighter screen produces both heat and uses a lot of power.

Speculation I read was the “far out” is a reference to astrophotography. Maybe periscope zoom? Nothing I’d give a gooseberry fool about. Can’t think of much on my 13 pro I consider needs improvement (beyond the usual year on year processor and graphics bump obviously).

Utterly sick of all the camera improvements. Is that all they can think of these days? All it’s resulted in for me is an ugly strawberry floating bump sticking out out the back of the phone.

Phones aside, I’d like to see big-screen M2 iMacs, though I understand that’s unlikely. I’m just about ready to replace my old iMac, but I don’t want to downsize, or buy an M1 when M2 machines are already available.

Imagine the standard iPad will be getting its almost yearly update too? Not that it needs much advertising these days as I imagine the iPad and iPhone line sell themselves.

What else can they realistically do with phones now, other than camera and battery improvements?

Invent something completely new instead of making minor improvements. They’re meant to be creatives.
