Last thing I want is them blowing through all the stock while I’m configuring it and trying to decide on any accessories.

I don’t really *need* the upgrade tbh, my current one is still going really good. I think half my motivation here is in giving the 11 Pro to my girlfriend. She’s not a fan of her Pixel at all.

I've got a 128GB graphite 13 Pro Max preorder preordered in the Apple Store app along with a dark cherry leather case (since they're not doing a leather Product Red for some annoying reason) and black wallet. I'll only get it if I can change the purchase option to the iPhone Upgrade plan at checkout, which apparently you can but we'll see how it goes. If that works then I'll trade in my XS Max towards it.

Same model and colour as me, but I’ve gone 256GB, and with a grey silicon case. Didn’t bother looking at the MagSafe stuff really. I’ll get them whenever.

I was pissed they got rid of Pacific Blue since that's one of the nicest colours they've ever done. The colour options for the Pros are pretty poor this year compared to what they usually are.

I noticed Amazon have the Magsafe charger for £15 cheaper than the Apple Store so I'll be getting that if I do get the phone.

Is it USB C? If they can cite the eu waste directives, they will.

It wouldn't cost a penny more or less if they included it.

Maybe they're concerned about being one of the world's biggest polluters and source of rare earth mineral conflict.

That is their justification and yes, it is USB C. But like, at least give me the option to opt in for a free plug or something. I need to buy one for it now, which is not only extra cost to me, but extra packaging and shipping, negating any “waste savings”

Probably around £450ish, it's good as new and it has an official black Smart Cover that's been on it since day one (those covers are £79)

You'll easily get that online for it.

I've bit the bullet and ordered the starlight iPad mini 64gb. Cant wait.

I think the EU taxes for it. Which speaks for itself.

There's three ways of looking at it: reducing environmental footprint, or avoiding taxes and cutting costs; or, well, all of those things.

In my opinion, for a device that expensive, it's a bit of avoiding taxes, and cutting costs, then just charging the same amount of money anyway as they we're paying the tax.

It's a good thing for the environment, but I seriously doubt the major contenders miss including something in the package when they can charge the same amount of money and blame the tax or the environment for not including it. They're replaced a tax with profit, both angles bad for the consumer.

The EU tax goes towards environmental planning and waste management anyway, it's an offset scheme to reduce the impact of an unnecessary amount of USB charges in the environment.

Apple evaded it for years and years by insisting on their own charger when everything had switched to USB by then, in order to prop up the authorised Apple docks and accessories marketplace - which they sold on their online store.

It also improves margins by reducing shipping weight and thus freight and storage charges, although that's a less likely to impact on CO2 footprint.

There's absolutely nothing a corporation of that size (or any size) does that isn't self-serving; the environment is the last thing on the list. It's a form of green washing. Any way that you can convince providing less is a good thing for the environment, that's a win for the company; even if that's not the real reason, or even if it's not demonstrably true, or false (or even demonstrably false).

Don't get me wrong. I think not including charges for devices with a standardised method of charging them is a good thing. But on a £1,000 phone? I don't think anyone believes the environment is the reason for that.

interesting that Apple didn't talk about any form of improvement from the A14 to the A15.

Not that I would even consider upgrading an iphone yearly and I expect my iPhone 12 to last until at least the iPhone 15.

I've got 2 preorders :fp:

The pre-preorder I saved in the store app didn't let me select the upgrade programme thing for the payment but I just chose store delivery in the hope that I can sign up for it there and then. Checked the store app later and the upgrade thing was there so I preordered the model I wanted through that for store pick up. Gonna have to cancel one but at least I know I've got one. Annoyingly the MagSafe wallet seems to be dispatching the week later and isn't available for store pickup with my other stuff.

The case I ordered arrives on Tuesday, and I’d have to wonder why they’re not shipping them together (because what good is an accessory for a phone that’s not yet on the market to anyone?!) but it’s probably the same deal as when PS5 was coming out and all the accessories and games were out the week before: reducing the strain on the delivery channels by delivering only the device itself on the launch day.

I got a confirmation email for my upgrade programme reservation so I cancelled the phone part of my first order and I'll pick up my case when I go in for that.

Amazon have dropped the price of the MagSafe chargers to £26 so I ordered one of them too.

Just pre-ordered the 64GB Mini on ao's eBay page for £404 as there is a discount code available on the website. Cancelled my £459 order on their site. What a saving!!

Edit: Taken down. Obviously an error - hope they honour it.

Can you post pics of it when it arrives? Every pic I've seen of the Dark Cherry makes it look lighter than the photos on the Apple store, and the "Midnight" actually looks more of a very dark blue rather than black, especially when side-by-side with last year's black leather case. I'm gonna have to have a look at them in store, I would just go for a red silicone case but those things are absolute dust magnets.

Yeah I saw that. It's cheaper than with the student discount from Apple :x Just realised I'm not gonna be in on Friday when my iPad gets delivered because I'll be at the Apple store picking up my iPhone :fp: Too late to cancel as well.
