Almost caved the other week but I'm happy with my 7 Plus and the extra screen space on the X doesn't actually seem to be all that in comparison with the Plus phones. Wonder how long it'll be before they do an X Plus.

Yup! Well, my wife has - surprised to have to already as we live in 'a remote location', so they usually arrive on the Saturday.

I've had a twenty minute or so with it just to get it up and running: it's pretty sweet, but once again, you're basically looking at any iPhone screen. The notification centre works from from the 'ear', and the face id was very easy to set up - but initially at least she had to really look right into the phone for it to work; you have to lift it up to eye-level at this stage, which looks a bit awkward. I imagine that will improve though.

And for what it's worth (and to feed my confirmation bias...?), I compared it directly with my Galaxy S8....and I think the S8 screen is better. Bit brighter, and has that magical 'floating on top of the phone' feel, which the iPhone x didn't seem to have.

It's a lot nicer in the flesh than in pictures, though!

Meh, just looks like any other iphone to me.

I have an Apple Mac and an iPad but I just don't get how people justify spending that much money on a phone. Kerazy!

Control Centre is kinda painful now it’s in the top right corner, but I’ll work around it.
Face ID on the other hand is incredible. Is it quicker than Touch ID? I’m not sure, maybe not. But the way it makes you feel like there is no security is really smart. It feels like if I gave it to someone else they could get into the phone, which clearly wouldn’t happen.
Not that the iPhone 7 was slow, but this is quicker.
Oh, and the notch… I can’t wait for people to stop moaning about it. The thing completely disappears as you start using it.

Edit: and switching between apps using the left/right swipe gesture on the home indicator is fantastic.

Yeah, the default behaviour is to show the full video zoomed out. So it sort of looks like you’re watching video on the iPhone 7.
You can double tap the screen and it’ll fill everything out, and yes the notch is visible, but you’ll be chopping off loads of video due to the new screen ratio anyway, so don’t see the point.

Sounds like a bit of an oversight.

Apparently the zoomed out mode is smaller than the Plus screen size.

The notch is big part of what I don't like about the design, to be honest. It really stands out to me, and just spoils the look of the thing. I can understand that one can get used to it, but I bet the next iteration (iPhone Xs) does away with it.

Yeah, the screen may be bigger, but I believe the usable space is smaller. I’ve never been a plus owner so it’s fine to me.

Honestly, the notch instantly disappears. And I mean instantly. The first time you use it the thing just disappears.

Sorry, I mean the notch just figuratively disappears, during normal use.
With video, yeah it’ll be visible if you view in zoomed in mode, but then you’ll be chopping off loads of video due to the ratio being wider than 16:9.
Video is best viewed in zoomed out mode.

Do they come in Rose Gold tinted.

Went into the Apple shop earlier, had a look at the iPhone X. In terms of it apparently being an oled screen I compared it to my iPhone 7 and couldn’t see any clear difference literally. I was expecting much better. That said it’s still nice. Photos look great when you view them fullscreen. Didn’t play long on it as people were kind of huddling around them. Decent/10. Not sure it’s worth £1000 tho

No mobile phone is worth £1,000. But then I guess if people are willing to pay it then fair play.
