I remember when my iPad 2 smart cover fell apart (it was a few years old by that time). Under the sticky back leather part, the folding sections were just really dense cardboard :dread:

My iPad 2 cover also fell to pieces, didn't go for the leather variant though. Sure mine was thin plastic under the fabric though.

I had the cover for the iPad Air 2 and after a year it tore off from its magnetic spine. Really shoddy product to be honest.

I bought an imitation Smart Cover off eBay for bugger all for my iPad 4 about 6 years ago and it's still going strong.

Seeing a few reports of the iPad Pro bending under normal use, not exactly encouraging to read for a device that's well in excess of £1000 when you've added a couple of accessories :dread:

It’s why apart from consoles I never jump in straight away with new tech. It’s within the first couple of weeks and months that these type of problems begin to become known.

Wouldn’t be the first Apple product prone to bending, as I remember one of the iPhones suffering a similar fate.

You can’t purchase the model with 16GB RAM unfortunately, but if you fancy purchasing the new MacBook Air (or any other Mac) with John Lewis they’ve currently got a promotion on that allows you to buy it with 18 months interest free credit (£66 a month, base model).

While it's probably not a hugely widespread issue its still enough for me to halt thoughts of buying one soon, I don't exactly want to get my shiny new iPad Pro home and a couple of weeks later have it slightly bent out of shape.

You're just holding it wrong.

Seriously though, with their attitude that thinner is always better I could see this becoming more of a common issue.

Spotify finally have an Apple Watch app out. It's pretty basic and just lets you control what's playing rather than downloading songs to the watch or anything like that.

I wonder at what point in 2019 Apple are going to offer up an optional quad core i5 in the Air?

So with the bending worries about the new Pro's I'm leaning towards the standard 2018 iPad, maybe as a short term replacement for my ageing iPad, maybe not (depending what gets released in the next couple of years), this way I could potentially get an iPhone as well but at the moment an iPad is certainly the priority. Also I'm finding it really hard to justify an iPad Pro when the normal one would probably do everything I need from an iPad anyway.

Does anyone reckon there'll be good Black Friday deals to be had on the 2018 iPad? Guessing the likes of Curry-PC World or John Lewis will be better options than Apple themselves. Obviously only just over a week till Black Friday so no harm in waiting in my opinion.

Have you got a link to these bending iPad reports because after having mine for a few days now I really can’t see how they are bending, it’s thin but it feels pretty solid

Debenhams have started their Black Friday sale early, and have got some substantial savings on MacBooks.

They’ve cut £39 off the new MacBook Air (126GB and 256GB): https://www.debenhamsplus.com/p/1326367 ... space-grey. In the USA though they’ve already knocked between $100-$150 off.

And slashed £630 off the 2017 15” MacBook Pro TouchBar 2.6GHz i7 (16GB RAM, 256GB SSD): https://www.debenhamsplus.com/p/1153058 ... space-grey, taking it to £1,709.

I have seen this thread over on MacRumors,

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ip ... l.2154343/

Then a video on YouTube of a drop test which let the iPad be bent very easily (granted probably helped a lot by the drop test). There might be more evidence out there but I've not exactly been looking for it, just seen it in general when looking for reviews and opinions on them.

It's probably nothing to worry about if you're careful with your iPad (and use a case) and I dare say Apple would very happily take it back and give you a new one if it did bend but from a device that is going to probably cost £1000 plus this is something that shouldn't even be a possibility if it's from normal, day to day usage, especially not after a week of usage at most. Heck my iPads been getting thrown about for a bit now and it's only just got its first minor mark on one corner when it fell off the bed :fp: other than that it's still in great condition.

it has quite a nice quality feel about it (not as good as the iPhone X Smart Folio but that's leather) it obviously fits the iPad perfectly and offers front and back protection without making it bulky, it also turns on the iPad when its opened (magnets) it also can be used in a couple of positions but the main reason its £99 is that its made by Apple although disappointingly it does not have an Apple logo on the back

It's not made by Apple. It's made by Foxconn in China along with hundreds of other consumer electronic devices. Apple designed the CAD file and some prototypes and that's it. It's lthe same as the third party ones that sometimes even come from the same factory but don't have the logo printed on them. Other times employees steal and sell the mould to another company, or simply 3D scan the product and replicate it exactly.

The feel is polyurethane but maybe with a slightly different texture or colour. This is also the same.

Just sayin
