Funny that they flogged the wireless AirPods case for a week before announcing this.

Wireless charging is crap. It’s inefficient, it will always be slower than wired, and its convenience benefit is minimal.

I have a Samsung fast charger that charges very quickly. It’s slow if you get a basic charger, get a decent one and it isn’t.

Wireless charging with the standard iPhone charger is pretty slow. You need a USB-C to Lightning cable, an 18W plug (this comes with the iPad Pro or can be bought separately) or higher and a wireless charger capable of 7.5W to get the full benefit of the fastest wireless charging speed for iPhones. The whole situation is a bit complicated.

AirPower being scrapped isn't really that surprising if the rumours about Apple having problems with it overheating were true.

strawberry floating bullshit. It's fantastic, you don't have to fiddle with cables and with Samsung you can use your phone as alarm clock (it holds the phone upright).
It's one of those things you don't appreciate until you have it.

An alarm clock you say? This changes EVERYTHING!

I think I can manage without it.

I’ve been using this kind of thing since my first iPod, 16 years ago.

The HomePod has had £40 knocked off its price, so you can get it for £279 at the Apple store now.

I got one last year out of curiosity as much as anything - I have a bunch of Sonos stuff around the house - but I do think the HomePod is excellent, and I'll probably grab a couple at the new price.

No interest in it without proper Spotify integration. Would've bought one instead of a Sonos One if it had that.

Yeah, that's fair enough. It's definitely one for those with full Apple integration. I prefer Apple Music, so it's really good for that... But then so is the Sonos stuff.

I've just ordered a couple as I'd say the sound on the HomePod is better, but without Apple Music then yeah, it's probably not worth it.

I'm also inclined to think they're going to release a new version on, say, the day after the arrive for me.

I have a HomePod and it’s great, I might get another one and pair them up, I remember reading a rumour last year that the HomePod mini would launch alongside the new AirPods, I have not read anything lately regarding a new HomePod but it’s due a update I would have thought

As noted on Reddit, Apple has updated its tech specs for the 2018 MacBook Air to indicate that the notebook now has a display brightness of up to 400 nits, compared to up to 300 nits previously.

We've confirmed with Apple that this increase is tied to the macOS 10.14.4 software update released on March 25. Apple's release notes did mention that the update "corrects the default screen brightness" for 2018 MacBook Air models, although no specific details were known at the time.

Prior to macOS 10.14.4, Laptop Mag found that its 2018 MacBook Air review unit maxed out at a brightness of 234 nits, while NotebookCheck determined an average value of 315 nits. It's unclear why there is such a big discrepancy there, but it'll be interesting to see how much the number increases in subsequent testing.

Battery life stats for the 2018 MacBook Air remain unchanged on Apple's tech specs page.

Taken me strawberry floating ages to figure out where they'd put the Portrait Orientation lock on iPad. And then it keeps bringing down the drop-down menu instead. Not the most intuitive design at all.

Last time I used it it was swipe up from the bottom.

You swipe down from the top right to bring down Control Centre. They changed it from swiping up from the bottom a few years ago when they added the gesture controls in iOS 11.

It’s daft, it should be like Android, you swip down you get the control centre and notifications. Splitting like this just isn’t intuitive.
