That's just backs up the point that they used to be good and now suck.

No, especially considering the "it just works" business philosophy Apple are infamous for. It doesn't bode especially well for everything they're shoving the M1 chip into.

Still, I've never had a problem with the one Apple product I've owned, an iPad Air 2, so I'm hoping the Pro won't have any issues.

Ha, fair point.

They suck because two people in this thread have problems.

I couldn't even really say the laptop sucks. I'm just disappointed with the minor issues I'm having. The laptop really is excellent and it is the fastest, most responsive computer I've ever used.

Tempted to keep a hold of it in the hope that future software updates stop it from happening. In the mean time I've stopped putting the computer to sleep overnight, and instead fully shutting it down.

Did you try turning the Bluetooth off entirely, just to see if that was the problem?

I usually turned the bluetooth and wifi off before putting the computer to sleep at night and that didn't resolve it. But the issue is intermittent so I've not been able to narrow the issue down. I 've always used 2 pairs of bluetooth headphones and have completely removed the pair that I think may be causing the issue from the computer. Will put it to sleep tonight and for the next few nights to see if it panics after waking up.

Wow wow wow! Thw new iMac looks amazing! I've never owned an imac before only MacBook pro. With it being so slim I am definitely considering getting one as its slightly more portable. Also 24in is a good screen size, I've always wanted a 27in one as 21 looked too small.
https://www.apple.com/uk/imac-24/

I can't decide between the Silver or the Blue...leaning towards Silver though, shame they aren't releasing a space grey version and the mid-range model at £1449 with 8 core GPU.

On second thoughts think I'll wait for the 27in replacement later in the year which might be around 30in

The "unlock your iPhone with Face ID if you're wearing a mask and an Apple Watch" thing in iOs 14.5 is brilliant.

I realise the speakers have to go somewhere if you're not adopting Sony's method of making them come out of the screen, but why didn't Apple put the stuff into a slightly chunkier base like Microsoft's Surface Studio?

Update to my M1 woes:

Apple Support suggested one last attempt to resolve the issue of the kernel panics I was getting after waking from sleep at least 5-6 times a week. I'd previously re-installed Mac OS twice to no avail. This Apple engineer suggested properly erasing the hard disk and setting up completely from new and I've not had a panic in 8 days. I've also updated the machine to 11.3.1. Thankfully that's it resolved.

From what I see online there have definitely been teething problems with apple silicon and my machine seems to have been one mildly affected.

I won't be buying an M1 iPad but I can't wait to see what they're like. The battery life on this machine is absolutely *incredible* and it is the quickest laptop I have ever used.

Apple has apparently discontinued the Magic Mouse 2 and Keyboard in Space Grey, so if you want it now is the time to do so. The mouse is a ridiculous £99, but Amazon UK currently has it at a slightly less ridiculous £87.

Managed 13 days without a Bluetooth kernal panic. This time I had YouTube open and 4 other safari tabs and editing on iMovie was the straw that broke the camel’s back

I really don’t like the atmos/spatial audio they’ve added to Apple Music. Tried some of the playlists they have curated and it just sounds like they’ve slapped a dodgy virtual surround sound filter on top of it. Weird because it works well for video apps like Disney plus. Switched off atmos in the Apple Music settings.

I’ll gladly take the lossless audio though.

Has anybody ever had a problem with being unable to plug headphones into their iPhone? It was working fine this morning, but now I cannot push the lightning connector in. I've tried a different pair and they won't plug in either.

I can't see that there is anything stuck in the port or any gunk that needs clearing out.

I’d get a cocktail stick and see if there is anything to come out anyway. I had a similar issue, headphones kept cutting out as did my charger, couldn’t see anything in the port but got a bit out of there and it’s worked fine since, I do clear it out every few months just to keep on top of it.
