How much did you pay for your last smartphone out of interest?

I don't really see a problem with someone paying that if it's going to be their main "computer" that they are going to use a lot throughout the day every day for a few years. I think the high priced 24 month contracts everywhere is charging are more ridiculous.

Well yeah hence the fair play bit.

Does the new little screenshot thumbnail literally just give you the option to edit the screenshot you’ve just taken? When the little thumbnail turned up I thought you might be able to drag it to post it into twitter or a message or something rather than having to click the little “+” and add it that way.

Seems a bit of a waste of time them adding it if it barely does anything...

I usually tap the share icon in the bottom left corner. Do you mean on the iPad with drag and drop? Haven’t tried that yet.

Well it's a few hours more of playing with the iPhone X and I can genuinely say, as a huge fan of Apple stuff, it doesn't do much for me.

As far as I can see, it's slightly quicker at opening apps than my galaxy s8 - like, nanoseconds quicker.

Face ID seems to work pretty well, but it does need the phone to be lifted to your eyeline to work: you can't just glance at it. It's a slightly odd movement to pay for something at the checkout, in my opinion. Plus, you still have to swipe the screen even after the face of unlock... So it's definitely not quicker than touch ID.

The screen is not as good as the Galaxy s8, at least to my eyes. It doesn't have the same sharpness or colour, and as I said before it doesn't have that slightly magical feeling of floating above the device.

That said, the phone IS beautifully made, and buttery smooth. Animoji is flawless and good fun, although obviously a novelty. It's quick as strawberry float, and easy to use (although my wife is struggling with not having a home button).

But I'm afraid I can't agree with Massimo - the notch is really ugly and I find it really distracting. I'm sure you can learn to live with it and no doubt even come to safely it as a feature, but to me it sticks out as an ugly sore thumb. A very odd design decision.

I think Apple needs to change its software fairly significantly. I think that at this point in the evolution of phones, people might be starting to get.... Bored, I suppose. iPhone x's screen looks just like every iPhone screen before it, and that means the consumer isn't getting that 'wow' factor as they used to. I suppose that's true of Android too, but at least as someone new to Android at this point I can enjoy the novelty of making my phone look how I like and tinker to my heart's content; my wife's screen looks exactly the same as the iPhone SE she had yesterday.

So for £1150..... I don't see how it's worth it. I'm not sure if I would see that if it lost the notch and boosted the screen..... But at least if be interested. As it stands, I'm happy to be the surrogate owner of one.... But not that happy.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

I’ll stick to my iphone 7 until next year at least. The X is just too expensive at £1000 for the 64gb model and i need much more than that.

I can go and enter the shop to buy iPhone X easily, but I am happy with my current iPhone 7 Plus which is only a year old. I will just leave it until next year to see how iPhone X goes in the first year.

These glass screen protectors. Has anyone used one before, do they impede the touch sensitivity?

Not usually. I think they could effect things like colour or viewing angles, very slightly, but should be okay for most people.
I do find they feel uncomfortable to use when swiping from the edges of the screen though.

Is there an issue with autocorrect? My strawberry floating phone is changing ‘we’ to ‘W.E’.

What. The. strawberry float.

How do I stop it? It’s not listed in the ‘text replacement’ list

Dunno what's going on with Apple's refurbished MacBook Pros on the online store, but they've suddenly seemed to have stopped selling 13inch ones with 16GB RAM just as I'm ready to buy one :x Might have to go for a 15inch one instead.

There was an autocorrect bug and they've just released an update to fix it https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/9/1662 ... fix-iphone Maybe that'll sort it.

The battery on my iPhone 6 is atrocious. Here's my day yesterday:

11am - phone just finishes charging to 100%, great!
11.20am - not touched my phone since it's charged, no apps open, battery is at 92%, oh no!
11.40 - driven to a place, took about 10 minutes using google maps, battery is at 17%, oh no x2!
11.45 - phone dead :(

Piece of gooseberry fool.

Oops.

Apple has said it is working to fix a serious bug within its Mac operating system.

The flaw in MacOS High Sierra - the most recent version - makes it possible to gain entry to the machine without a password, and also have access to powerful administrator rights.

“We are working on a software update to address this issue,” Apple said in a statement. The bug was discovered by Turkish developer Lemi Ergin. He found that by entering the username "root", leaving the password field blank, and hitting "enter" a few times, he would be granted unrestricted access to the target machine.

...

While Apple works on its fix, it offered a workaround for users concerned about the bug.
“Setting a root password prevents unauthorized access to your Mac,” the company explained.
"To enable the Root User and set a password, please follow the instructions here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204012.
"If a Root User is already enabled, to ensure a blank password is not set, please follow the instructions from the ‘Change the root password’ section.”

I’m assuming everyone else’s iPhone battery has also been dog gooseberry fool this week after the 11.1.2 update? Mine’s literally been half as good as usual. :fp:

Just updated to 11.2 though. Hopefully that fixes it.
