The Daily Express were most grateful for what happened, it provided them with more column inches than even Princess Diana's accident could ever hope to provide.

Terrible parents. Even if you take out the possibility of them doing it/being involved, you have to be very neglectful parents to leave your children in those circumstances. They are a very, very odd couple either way.

They did murder her though.

You would think they would be reasonably smart enough to think that was a bad idea.

24 Hours in Police Custody was brilliant this week, involving a surgeon. Worth watching.

They shouldn't have left two young children unattended in their hotel room while they went for a night out, so yes they are terrible parents.

My children (12 & 10) went to the park yesterday on their own. The park is situated just down the road from their grandparents who I called just to say they were in the vicinity so to keep any eye out for them. My eldest, who is very sensible, (she is at that age now where she likes to go to the cinema etc with her school friends with no adults in tow! :dread:  ), had her phone and I gave her strict instructions on taking care of herself and her younger sister. We live in a nice neighbourhood and it's generally a very safe place for children to be out and about. Nevertheless I made sure they both understood the importance of being mindful. I actually think I was perhaps a little too over concerned. My wife later walked around to her parents, checking in on the children who were fine and having fun with their friends.

The McCanns left their very young children unattended in an unlocked hotel room in a foreign country whilst they went out on the piss. Yes, they are bad parents. As others have said, had the McCanns being anything other than two white, wealthy, professionals they would have been dragged through the mud by the press and at the very least both been charged with child neglect.

As for what I think about Madeline's disappearance? I believe that it was a case of accidental death and the McCanns' covered it up and then called in some very powerful friends in high places to help cover their tracks. If we can believe that a group of rich and powerful people can cover the tracks of a monstrous paedophile for over 30 years then we have to believe the probability that others in positions of power are capable of protecting the McCanns.

My daughter's 17 and I still worry about her when she's out, I get her to drop the odd text that she's ok and cool, if she's worried about walking from a party or cinema visit to the bus she needs to get then I'll chat to her on the phone while she walks.. I think it can be very hard to dial the concern in even as they get older so I'll never understand people being able to turn the protection desire off and just sod off and leave little kids like Madeline's parents did

The fact that the children were 2 & 3 years old makes it even more shocking how irresponsible the McCanns are. Had this been a poor family claiming child and housing benefit you can guarantee that shitrags like The Sun would be labelling them scum, whereas in the case of the McCanns the tabloids are outraged that anyone could even suggest that they were anything other than model parents.

I've seen information on it. Hopefully it brings some closure of they find the body. It doesn't really change my opinion of their parenting though.

Yeah I agree it doesnt change my opinion that they should have been investigated for child neglect or my opinion that too much was spent on looking for her when nothing much is spent on looking for most missing kids. I do wonder if the guy is guilty if he might say anything that in fact incriminates them more like ''oh yeah it was really easy to take her she didnt so much as stir for ages it was like shed been doped'' you never know.

Criminal investigators in Germany notified Christian Brückner as early as 2013 that he was on their radar in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, raising questions over whether they inadvertently allowed the suspect to dispose of evidence.

I’m not a parent and I don’t know what is to be expected of leaving kids of their ages alone, but my mum and dad did a similar thing with me and my sister (we were a bit older though, I was 8/9 and she was 2/3) when we went on holiday. I think a big distinguishing fact is that it was the hotel restaurant they were drinking in, which mentally would have seemed like a much smaller deal than leaving the premises to go out on the lash.

Never previously took any interest in this case; but now that I am a parent to a two year old daughter, I can unequivocally say that yes they are bad parents who made a horrendous decision.

I am concerned about my daughter if she's made her way upstairs without me realising - I cannot imagine how the McCanns ever thought that voluntarily leaving multiple toddlers on their own in an unlocked hotel room was acceptable.

The CPS should absolutely be going after them for neglect.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Thanks God this is back in the news otherwise the papers might actually have to report on something that affects more than 2 people.

Yes to me the kids should never have been left where they were. From the restaurant you couldn’t see the apartment; the door only the building. I also don’t understand why Kate didn’t take the kids out of the room when she went to raise the alarm when she found Maddie gone, there’s some just odd behaviour in general across the case.

I don’t think they had anything to do with her murder or abduction. But I think their timings are most certainly off and wrong - the fact the police never interviewed everyone separately and they changed the timeline multiple times (despite the group or not wearing watches, having phones on them) to me leads me to believe that their stories actually cover up the evenings events that probably show them to make even bigger mistakes. (In terms of people not checking the kids as much as they said and/or with bigger delays).
