Chippy isn’t an American word, they don’t even have them over there, not in the way that we do at the very least.

Takeaways remain a treat for me, I like cooking and know that whatever I make will be healthy and cheaper.

I say treat, sometimes I think that half the stuff you get doesnt actually taste that good.

Good for a hangover

I rarely get a takeaway for myself but, when I do, it's usually McDonalds that I collect. Occasionally I have Chinese food or a pizza as a takeaway with a pal when we're watching football on TV.

I still regard a takeaway as being a treat.

My girlfriend and I will usually have a takeaway around once a week, depending on how barren our cupboards are and how inclined we are to fill them.

During one particularly bad period, we would have three or more a week. It was not a good chapter of my life.

Nowadays we're making a conscious effort to plan a full weekly shop, properly and consistently, lest we fall back into that hole.

You know who else can do that? You. Literally the easiest gooseberry fool.

Not when I'm about to get on a train home!

Also I can make a stir-fry that is reasonably close in terms of quality but it takes a fairly long time to prepare everything, not to mention the washing up and having had to source all the ingredients beforehand.

I can make a basic stir-fry much more quickly but it'll taste absolutely nothing like as good as the type that I actually want.

I've noticed that if you stop ordering with certain outlets and also sign up to their mailing/text lists, they'll hit you with their best deals. Domino's often have 50% off, and very occasionally 60% - which to be honest is all its worth.

Pretty much this.

Last takeaway I ate was over 6 months ago from the local chippy (which is fairly decent) and I didn't particularly enjoy it.

I do however regularly eat instant noodles (Naked Noodle) but they're nowhere near as full of additives and salt/sugar as most others (Pot Noodle I'm looking at you) and are my only real means of getting a curry/chinese fix as my disability makes eating most meat/veg based curry/stir fries too difficult (I have difficulty chewing and swallowing a lot of foods).

I rarely have takeaways these days. Most things I would order from a take away I can cook myself for a lot less money. I am partial to a Dominos now and again and if I have friends round I 'll sometimes order food just for convenience.

We'll either eat in town or order takeaway usually a couple of times a week. Basically because it's fun and convenient. Nowhere expensive, but I could see it adding up to that "average young person" figure of £1000/yr.

I am a bit chubby so if I were really prioritising my health I guess I wouldn't. (I'm not really too fussed at the moment though, I'll deal with it when I'm 30. :shifty: )

You're not chubby! You're above average!

I might have one tonight. Because I'm lazy and want to play more video games.

That’s what I used to say. Now I’m 38 and will sort it out when I get to 50.

We were really busy towards the end of last year so we got takeaways more often than we should have. It is still a treat, but as someone else said it's more to avoid washing up and cooking if we've both had crazy days. We cook quite a lot of food from scratch so our diet isn't too bad.

I often find I'm absolutely starving hungry the morning after a takeaway even if I've eaten a disgusting amount of food (i.e. a massive burger, all my chips, then some of my wife's food if she's full).

I struggle to pile on weight (honestly, staying at 12 stone can feel like hard work), so takeaways can be a convenient and easy way to consume calories without having mountains of healthy food (supposedly, because I still find it hard to believe some of the claims about there being, say, 2000 calories in a McDonald's meal...I mean, how?!). It's the feeling after or the next day that can be unpleasant. The lethargy is awful.

That’s the main reason I never eat McDonalds anymore, it never satisfies my hunger so it ends up being an empty 2000 calories. At most I grab a tea, cheeseburger and a McFlurie (yeah an odd combo) if I really fancy one but I don’t think I’ve been to McDonalds in probably about 4 years now.
