Are takeaways a treat any more?

I almost never have takeaways (I don't think I have even 3 a year) and I'm constantly surprised by just how often people I know order them.
I do sometimes get food when I'm out and had a burger when I went to play some pool last weekend but even that's only about once a month at most.

Am I really that unusual in not having takeaway food and how often do you guys get them?

Less a treat for pleasure, more a treat for when I’m too tired to cook off a nightshift or I’m working lots and need easy stuff. We’re about twice a month but prefer to actually go out for dinner. Depending on how trash I look.

I am not a fan of cooking on a daily basis so yes I rely on takeaways.

Our village has the worst chip shops in the world, and I'm not a fan of Indian food. So that pretty much just leaves the Chinese, which I do use maybe once every other month. It's always good, but I wouldn't want to go more regularly than that.

We used to live about 20 seconds walk from a superb Indian takeaway, and used to have it at least 3 times a week :dread:

Got so so fat and was ill all the time.

Now we have a takeaway delivered so maybe twice a month. My wife is an amazing cook and between us we have great food every day (thanks slow cooker :datass: ). The money saved goes towards going out for a meal every month or so and we're physically fit and rarely ill now.

I know a fair few people that have takeaway food most nights of the week, along with shop bought lunches :dread:

They're constantly ill, overweight and complaining of having no money. They even boast of going for burgers etc every time they go near town as if it's something to be proud of :dread:

We usually have one once a week on Sundays when we're both to tired to cook. Sushi more often than not, so we don't feel too guilty about it.

At most, twice a month. I class it as a treat.

I usually go and get some when I get paid.

We have them once or twice a month. We recently had a chippy/pizza place open just down the road about 3 months ago though that's always tempting but we usually resist.

I have them far too often. I'm an absolute sucker for these Chinese takeaways that can rustle up a box of whatever stir-fry you want in about three minutes.

I would happily have one every day, but only really have one about once a month.

If skarjo had said that the context could be very different.

Pretty much stopped eating them completely. Realized that while I enjoyed them for the five minutes or so it took to eat them, they always left me feeling pretty crappy afterwards. Don't miss them at all.

Used to get a takeaway about once a week but ever since I got more into cooking it's about two or three takeaways a year now.

Never get takeaways. As it's just the two of us it seems kind of pointless. I'd rather go out for a meal than pick only what's nearby, and get it lukewarm.

I'd say they are more of a "treat" if you are a family. We used to get Indian or Chinese as a treat when I was younger as there was five of us, which would cost a fair chunk of change.

Never had them when I was a kid so I still think of them (and eating out at a restaurant) as a massive treat!

Probably have maybe one a month on average.

Well we have a cracking Chinese takeaway about 50 metres away so the temptation is there constantly! Within a 5 minute drive we have quite a lot, couple of Chineses, an Indian, couple of pizza shops, a kebab shop and then a couple of chippys to finish it off.

In reality though we probably have at most two a month, however it is nice having a takeaway a stones throw away just in case plans change at the last minute and we need a quick and easy tea.

Takeaways are everywhere these days, when I was a kid my neighbourhood had a chippy and a Chinese.

Now we have everything, Domino's, Pizza Hut and Papa John's seem to be in a race to see who can open the most takeaways right now. We have a load of kebab places too now.
