Are You A Cowboy?

The year is 1858 and we find ourselves in the town of Red Rock at the height of the gold rush. The people of Red Rock are miners who toil all day harvesting the gold vein that was found here almost 10 years ago. It’s a place where simple folk live simple lives and each night they like nothing more than enjoying a drink in the local tavern and discussing the latest rumours and gossip from around the town. The tavern itself is a welcome reprieve from the town’s dusty streets and it remains, in the opinion of The Sheriff, one of the finest watering holes in the west. It would usually attract travellers of all sorts, though it had been some time since they had brought anything but bad news along with them.

The Sheriff leaned heavily against the bannister of the tavern’s veranda, the saloon doors swinging shut behind him. He took a deep breath, trying in vain to clear the fuzziness that rested in his head and set off to begin his ‘patrol of the town borders’. It had been a while since that sort of thing was necessary, but he needed the bathroom and it seemed a fair reason to excuse himself from the room’s uneasy atmosphere. Everyone in town had heard the rumours that The Cowboys were nearby. The Sheriff shook his head wearily as he rounded the old barber’s shop and paused on the edge of town, looking out into the desert as he relieved himself of his most recent round of drinks. They said that The Cowboys had been sighted attacking travellers on the roads or on the outskirts of town, each of the assailants had worn a red neckerchief to cover their faces so nobody had gotten a good look at them, or rather nobody alive had...

The Village found The Sheriff’s head sat on the steps of the tavern the very next morning, a notice pinned just above that grisly sight declared; “The Sheriff can’t protect you now. Your gold is ours and it is time the vultures were fed. Red Rock is finished.” Some of the villagers searched the town for signs of hoof prints but found nothing. The Cowboys had done this, but they hadn’t ridden into town in the middle of the night, and despite a thorough search of the town they couldn’t find a single trace of any outsiders. By the following evening everyone had come to the same conclusion and the mood in the tavern was subdued, the cowboys were already in the village and they could be any one of them.

Welcome to Are You A Cowboy? Can The Village band together and root out The Cowboys hiding within or will they flounder, leaderless as they are picked off one by one.

The Rules:
1/ You must not disclose your true forum name using your secret identity (alt account) or vice-versa for the duration of this game. I also encourage you not to speculate about the secret identity of other players while you’re alive. Save your speculation for the dead thread.
2/ Do not under any circumstances printscreen or forward any PMs you receive from me over the course of the game. Paraphrasing a PM is fine, just don’t copy my PMs word for word.
3/ In the event of a tie lynch the result shall be decided by RNG.
4/ Dead players should not under absolutely any circumstances, contact living players or vice versa.
5/ You must post in the thread at least once every 48 hours. If you don't I will godkill you, no questions asked. Engage in the game or don't bother to sign up.
6/ The use of PMs is strictly forbidden at all times between players unless specifically allowed in your Role PM.
7/ It is mentioned in role PMs but if possible when sending night actions please ensure they start the subject with “Night X:” where X is the night in which you are using the action. This just means that it will go to a specific folder in my inbox which makes it easier to sort out updates.
8/ The discussion, viewing or use of the ‘Who is Online’ feature is not allowed for the duration of the game.
9/ This game will begin with a Night 0 during which all night actions are valid.
10/ By signing up you are agreeing to abide by the above and are also acknowledging my right as host to amend the rules above or godkill players at my own discretion and at any time if they are cheating in ways i’ve not mentioned above or even if I just I feel that their conduct is unwarranted, uncivilized or is generally making the game less fun for other players in any way. If you are made aware of anyone who is breaking the above rules then don’t hesitate to PM me so the appropriate action can be taken.

This game pitches an uninformed majority (The Village) against an informed minority (The Cowboys).

A victory for one group is a victory for all of its membership so do your best to support your team however you can!

After signing up you will be assigned a role (Villager, Cowboy, etc) as well as a name for an alternative account which you must make and use for the duration of the game. Each real life day will be one ingame cycle containing two phases.

The Day Phase will end at 7pm each evening and the Night Phase will end at 7am each morning.

I think that should be everything, please let me know ASAP if you haven't received a rolePM but were expecting one. Slightly later than planned as we had a last minute dropout but I think everything should be sorted.

As mentioned a few times this game is starting with a Night Phase, Night 0, during which all actions are valid. Day 1 will begin at 7am on Monday 6th June so please create your alt account and message me if you wish to take any night actions before that time. Until then please feel free to show off your fancy new alt account and if possible please upload a memorable avatar to help with brand recognition and make sure everyone is looking their best!
