Yeah that one was a challenge, didn't think I would beat your time at first! There's still scope for improvement there as well so I don't think it will stay with me for long!

There must be a better strategy for Chipz' level because I'm not getting close to the current record!

I think I've managed to figure it out (and claim the WR 8-) ...for now :slol: ).

I won't ruin it for you in case you want to work it out yourself, but here's a hint:
You can skip a bit in the second half of the level.

Here's a bigger hint which might spoil it a bit, click at own risk! It's to do with the springs!

Jenuall's time for Porcupuffer Panic was 1:06.666, so I'm kinda hoping nobody beats it now. Loving the comments too btw. :P

I've now voted after having another play of the levels earlier. I don't think I'll be challenging for any WRs, that's for sure

Well done to Karl and Cyborg but sad to lose Yubellion and Supachipz, AYAMMM is a brutal mistress!

Well done Karl and Cyborg, looking forward to getting back to making after the short break! Going to be tough competition for sure.

Not sure my votes got through properly based on a comment during the stream, but if they didn't I don't think they would have affected the leaderboard given the totals, so no worries!

Well done to Karl and Cyborg. Definitely looking forward to seeing what the remaining four come up with next, albeit without the lingering pressure of trying to outdo them.

Good luck y'all! :toot:

Oh, and if you wanted to see my clear video for Porcupuffer Panic, click the spoiler tag ok bye

Congratulations Cyborg and Karl and good luck to the remaining makers :D

I’m in two minds about this weeks results:

On the one hand I do feel a bit frustrated as I felt I nailed the brief more so than I normally do this week and worked really hard on the “runner feel” of my level and felt that ultimately got pipped by a level that didn’t really meet the brief when you look at it (no offence Karl: the level is great, but just not what I would consider a runner (hope that makes sense :? ))

On the other hand I’m relieved to not have to come up with a level this week. At times this year I’ve found it hard to find the motivation to come up with something, and found myself leaving it to later on in the week that I normally would resulting in a lot of stress and frustration. It also hasn’t helped that there have been a few games that came out during the comp (Animal Crossing, Last of Us2 and 51 World Wide Games :shifty: that haven’t had my full attention because of this.

Anyway, I love being part of this comp, it always has a way of distracting me from things that are going on, from my own struggles with Mental Health the first time around, to my Grandad passing away the second time and this time the Covid crisis, so I’d like to that Devlin for sticking with if, despite the clear frustration at times.

(BTW Dev: the Twitch Thumbnail has 1st and 3rd results in it: SPOILERS :D

I’d also like to thank all the makers! I always look forward to Mario Maker Monday’s and getting a fresh batch of guaranteed quality levels to play every other Monday (it’s almost the excitement of a new game release for me :D).

Good luck to you all in the remainder: I’m looking forward to seeing what you can come up with

Thanks everyone, I'm pretty surprised to go through but I love making levels so I'm pleased to have another week of making!

None taken! It definitely wasn't as clear a "runner level" as yours.

Mine is intended to be speed-ran (and can be in around 40 seconds!) but I see in retrospect that it's more of a sandbox to that end than a runner level. You have to try to find the momentum-y path through, rather than it being "natural feeling", which I see now wasn't what Devlin was looking for (sorry Devlin).

For what it's worth I loved your level and spent a tonne of time with it. I'm sure someone will pip my WR one day but I'm very proud of my time!

Thanks for the kind words Karl!

I haven’t had a chance to go back and see what the WR is on mine, but seeing it on stream this morning I spotted a couple of ways to cut some corners that even I didn’t see! :D

You definitely hit the brief for me chipz! For me it was probably the only level that nailed how I interpreted the theme, although all four of the levels were obviously achieving some version of a "runner". The second half of Karl's was more runner-like I think (so I'm glad I persevered through to completion in the end!) while Yubel's was probably the opposite - I didn't get there myself, but once cat mario came into it I think it lost some of the momentum because of the waiting involved, even if always a constrained form of waiting. Cyborg's undoubtedly hit the "always progressing" part of the brief but for me felt the most removed from being a runner - it felt more like his signature precise execution/smart puzzle combination just with a tight time limit enforced over the top - so tight that playing it felt almost like a quick time event because you had to execute everything so precisely to the point of the contraptions not being puzzles to solve but things that just happened as long as you followed the on-screen prompts (once I knew what those meant!). I am quite evidently alone in that criticism though and it was still a well deserved win from the obvious craft that went into it!

So did your votes not get counted then OR? Do we need to be busting out a Phoenix Wright gif at this point?! ;)

I'm not sure, but I don't think it would have made a difference anyway! Regardless changing anything now I would have thought a little unfair so hopefully no phoenix gifs needed :P

I'm itching for the new guidelines, if only monday wasn't my day off!

FWIW if there was an accidentally missed vote that would have changed the outcome (which sadly might be negative for me) I'd be fine with it being counted. Democracy and all that!

You said you didn't think it would change the outcome, though, so it sounds like no big deal.

Assuming nothing changes I'm looking forward to this week's guidelines! I wouldn't bet on myself this week, OR and Jen and OSC are very tough competition  , but I'm hoping to put up a good fight at least! :D

I've checked and no votes have been missed.

Guidelines shortly.
