Not settled on a theme for my level yet but have been playing around with the new power ups a bit to see what they are capable of. The 3D World boomerang looks like it enables some interesting possibilities so I'm leaning toward that at the moment!

Spent all day playing with ideas again without finding anything to stick, but now I’ve finally made some progress and think I’ve settled on the way I’m going to go! Despite the options available, this has been the toughest week for me so far I think.

Same! It's probably because the things are new but so many things I tried just didn't work like I imagined they would.

Happy with the way I'm going now though, like yourself

I haven't tried out any of the powerups you mushshrooms are using (other than SMB2 Mario from Qikz's last level) - I wonder if I should familiarise myself with them before playing the levels, or treat the levels as my introduction

That’s a great point Orange, the pieces being new and having not played any levels with them in, makes it difficult to exploit their full potential.

Yeah at the moment I'm just playing about with the new power ups in a test area rather than building a real level. Hoping to work out some fun interactions between what the new power ups give you and existing course elements

After 5 days I’ve finally come up with a concept I think I can make work, have sketched out my level and got to the last part, which having played with, I feel I can make a whole level out of in itself so now I’m in two minds on what to do again :fp:

Feel like I've settled on the ideas I want to use now, but need to get on with making them into an actual level!

Tomorrow at 8 is the submission deadline right?

I believe so! I managed to get mine in yesterday after a day off sick. Tough week this week, but I feel like I playtested so much more

Managed to carve out a couple of hours today to make a level.

I should have been working but there you go, what's done is done :slol: :shifty:

I definitely won't be able to make the stream though. Really sorry about that. :(

95% done for mine I reckon, just got to playtest it hard and then pray that people know what's expected of them. :shifty:

Gonna be some sweaty palms on stream tomorrow, that's for sure.

Managed to catch the end of the stream, and I had a bit of a skim through some of the earlier playthroughs on the video just now. Wow, OSC's looked tough! (& Glad you liked the "Mario da Vinci" quote Devlin ;) )

Gonna do my best to play them over the week, but sincere apologies in advance to anyone's I can't finish. Still really hectic on my end but fingers crossed - I'll do my best anyway!

I'm happy that both Qikz and Dragon played with flight too. I think I've discovered a new favourite subgenre of Mario Maker levels! I didn't have too long to play with all the different masks but I just instantly fell in love with how it felt to fly around a level. Both the spinny hat and the Bullet Bill are great. I think those two items make it so there's now a solid reason to choose to make a 3D World themed level over other themes, whereas before this update I felt like 3D World, while interesting, was maybe a more limited option overall.

Sorry I couldn't make the stream, I must have just missed the end of it as I just finished watching it through now!

TIL quite how much Cheeky hates the car :P I knew it'd be a risk with how much people seem to inherently dislike it, but I loved the combo too much of the cannon box and car to make the tank! That said you were definitely making it harder than it is, all you needed to do was kill your momentum and use a charge shot to take out the piranha plant! (Or, as you tried once, just jump out and clear it on foot). It was sort of working as intended in stopping you from just driving right while firing :shifty:

After that is just a boss fight against giant cat bowser (with a constantly refreshing cannon box powerup, dw ;) ), then the level is done, so you got through most of it regardless. Hopefully everyone else is a little less hateful of the car - personally I wish people made more levels with it, it can be really fun :P

My first two attempts at levels were using the bullet bill mask and propeller box, which are definitely just really fun to control. As I mentioned though I just found it really hard to make challenges that actually required them or couldn't be cheesed with wall jumping and iframes. Also a neat thing about the bullet bill mask I don't think I saw utilised - you can use it to climb single walls, as you can wall-jump off, turn around and fly back higher up, and repeat. Neat, but also another potential route for breaking levels!

I lol'd at ok boomerang and the da vinci quote

I struggled with controlling the bullet bill mask, found it hard to avoid crashing straight into walls and the bullet exploding when I wanted to jump up them! Probably just need to practice a bit more.

I was impressed with the inventiveness on display with the new power ups and masks, lots of interesting ideas!

Kinda feel like I botched it this week - despite putting more effort into indicators and ensuring the player isn't left hanging after taking damage at any point, this level somehow wound up more broken and disorientating than any so far.

So with that said, I may put out a video (maybe wednesday) to benefit those who might find themselves lost or otherwise frustrated, but only if that's ok by Devlin.

I always think your levels are really interesting experiments Yubel! I think we've all accidentally made levels which are a bit obscure or too hard (I definitely have :slol: ) but that doesn't change the craftsmanship that went into them. I appreciate you're trying to do something a bit different and always look forward to seeing what you came up with! :D
