I always seem to have the problem of not making complicated enough levels. I just kinda wanna build traditional levels so they're never long or insanely hard or anything.

Just finished beating all the levels, they took me three hours in total. Interestingly I started the Twitch video at 1 hour 30 minutes in and Devlin caught up :shifty:

Those new 3D World Power UPS are great! Can’t wait to play with them some more!

I've enjoyed every one of your levels so far if that makes you feel any better!

I actually don't think anyone has submitted a total clanger yet. Some have been a bit confusing at first or had the difficulty a bit off, but they've all had a lot of thought put in and I've not played one yet where I've thought it was a bad level! (Makes ranking really hard!)

I've just finished yours. Took me about half an hour to figure it all out. I'm pretty sure I've spotted all the secrets too.

I actually think all of the movement puzzles were really interesting, and I loved the architecture and theming (kind of "dreaming about space", it was really nice!).

I think my feedback would be: (1) the munchers respawning made a part of the level impossible to access if you died, and it wasn't terribly obvious that it was actually an optional part; and (2) some big excited arrows to give you a hint after you go down the blue pipe would have been nice, as it took me many many goes before I noticed you could jump on the wooden stump.

Still, I came away from it thinking it was pretty cool, so don't feel down on it!

I've only had a chance to get through a couple of this weeks levels so far so I need to get a wriggle on. Plus I still want to go back and complete the two from the last round that I started but couldn't figure out either!

I agree with Karl's comment above regarding the lack of clangers so far, every week has seen a solid set of levels produced which is impressive. :toot:

I just spent far too long speedrunning your level to get a sub 30 second time! Had a ton of fun with it though - here's my best run (30 seconds being that magic number where it can entirely fit within a Switch video clip!):

I also found that it's possible to break the level by rehitting the switches to turn off all of the spike blocks, but it made it a bit slower!

I'm sure there are still some improvements to make, especially with that final jump where I use the propeller box - it definitely feels like there should be a quicker way to do it! If anyone has any ideas let me know :shifty:

Anyway, what I learned from this is that I shouldn't have been worried about all of the skips that were possible in my early attempts at levels last week - exploiting them is lots of fun

Glad to see that you had fun with the level OR :TOOT: I hadn't thought about the long-term effects of the on/off switch :P

Argh! I just can't cannot do wall jumps using the bullet bill mask! Either I blow up on the wall or Mario just changes direction and starts blasting the other way without jumping. :x

Apologies to anyone using this manoeuvre in your course as I may not finish it. :(

Oh no! I think this is probably in reference to my level. :slol:

The trick is to release the throttle early, and keep holding "forward" into the wall. I'd practice just cutting your throttle and sliding down the wall a few times, then add in the jump when you get the hang of that. I understand it's a bit tricky though, so no pressure to bash your head against it!

Not exclusively your course but I won't deny yours is in the mix!

It's a great bit of design to combine the skills and I get the logic of it but my brain and/or fingers just can't pull it off reliably! Still through a combination of determination and luck I have managed to succeed! :toot:

Maybe try thinking of it not as a single movement but a distinctly stepped chain of flying -> falling -> wall jumping -> flying? If you're changing direction mid air and starting to fly again without ever jumping you've skipped the falling into the wall stage altogether. I'm pretty sure I don't hold any direction when flying, I only start pressing the d-pad once I've released B. As you get better at it you just reduce the time between those steps thereby reducing the height you lose.

(Might I add the hori d-pad joy-con has been easily worth it for Mario Maker alone! So much better than the stick - or left hand face buttons :dread: )

Playing through some more levels now. Literally just completed Karl's and really the only criticism I an give is that it wasn't terribly obvious that you needed to enter the blue pipe before the second checkpoint. However, its Jenualls exploration of the boomerang which I personally feel will pay off in this weeks scores.

Jen's really felt like he explored in depth all different things you can do with the boomerang, I really liked that - just a constant stream of new but related ideas. The only one that didn't really work for me was part where you were supposed to blow up the bullet bills to hit the switch to drop the launcher/p switch. I found the explosion really finicky if it would actually trigger the switch or not, and it was actually a lot easier to do what devlin did and abuse the fact the boomerang will track down to steer it into a switch from above.

(Am I the only one who thinks it's really weird how the boomerang will fly down towards you if you're below it but not up if you're above??)

I spent a while speedrunning that level as well, just not to the same extreme as dragon's!

I do enjoy a good in depth exploration. :datass:

I must admit I was in two minds about the bullet bill part - it was actually the very first mechanic I had explored when I was messing around with the boomerang and realised that it would work so I think I was a bit tied to it for that reason! If you get the timing right it's not too hard to throw the boomerang at the right time but the last one is tricky because you almost have to launch it as soon as the bullet appears.

I was kicking myself that on stream I hadn't realised you could enter that room with the ON/OFF blocks in the wrong position so Devlin got to skip doing the top line! :fp: That and the fact that he managed to get past the penultimate challenge without needing to use the '!' block to push the bob-omb right to get the key - I was sure I had tested that enough to make sure it wasn't possible, I even changed the enemy type as well!

Moving "up" against gravitation after the peak of the throw would violate conservation of energy.

I have finished playing all the levels and got my ranking in! Improvement on last time at least... :slol:

I will try my best but I might not be able to make the stream. Sorry if I can't but I'll catch up on the video for sure.

@OSC: I had an incredibly lucky run through your level to claim the world record! Kind of proud of myself but also very aware that I couldn't do it again if you paid me  :fp:
