Yeah that could be a nice addition to things, like you say we had a nice kind of meta-contest going at times with people trying to take the speed run crown from each other on the levels each week! I definitely think that taking part has more forms than simply being one of the makers - anyone can play along, watch the streams or just chat in the thread!

Pedz wrote:I am unsure, I've skipped on all the bar the first 2 and pulled out on the 2nd due to not having the time, but as I'm streaming/recording less in general I should be OK to go for it. I'll jump into this one, yeah. I can't see it being an issue with time.

Karl_ wrote:I'll join if I can - it's hard for me to commit to a competition that plays out over many weeks but fingers crossed.

DarkRula wrote:I'll see about joining in with this one. We'll see if my Animal Crossing title of Creative Coconut holds any merit.

It will be great to have any of you involved, as I said earlier I definitely want to make the contest as open and accessible as possible!

Yubel wrote:By the time the previous contest ended, I felt as though I'd came to the end of the line creatively and I regret to say that's still the case. Tempting as it is (seriously, this fence I'm sitting on is threatening to rupture my asshole right now), it's with a heavy heart I've decided to take a backseat on this occasion.

Will certainly be watching with keen interest though. :datass:

Hi Yubel that's a shame, I really enjoyed all of your levels last time out! But I understand if you feel like you're all tapped out!

Out of curiosity would there be anything I could do to tempt you back, changes to format or structure of the competition? If nothing else I'm hoping to come up with some good new challenges/requirements for each week to get the ideas flowing!

Like Yubel, I feel like I’ve hit a wall with Mario Maker right now and felt kind of empty of ideas by the time we finished the last one so I’m in two minds...

Never say never I suppose, but even with fresh ambition/ideas I doubt I'd be able to give it 100% like I was able to during the initial lockdown. It's humbling to know my contributions proved to be memorable, but yea, I'm pretty tapped out in regards to making.

Hey no worries chipz, like I say we probably won't be kicking off for a couple of weeks so have a think and see where you land. :D

I reckon you might lure people in if you hype it up for a few weeks. Get people thinking about it and I bet everyone who feels like "I don't have any ideas..." will start to have them, if that makes sense!

 For sure! Maybe reveal what the first theme will be while sign-ups are still open? Then people will go like, "Argh, I wasn't going to sign up, but now I have a great idea for a level so I have to! Stupid sexy Jenuall :x "

Oh, unlucky Lime! If you're willing to shop across regions I believe it's on offer on the US eshop for about £30?

Mario maker 2 is criminally underplayed on my switch, so anything that gets me playing it again is a good thing, so

IN

Aww, no worry kaz - I'm sure there will be plenty of great levels coming out of it for you to enjoy!

Hmm don't know, dropped out of the last one as I wasn't enjoying it as much as previous contests so I'm not sure I'll take part

Come on Hypes, you know you want to!

My aim is for it to be as much fun and as little hassle as possible but seriously I get that it's not a small commitment and only you can pick whether or not to jump on board. :)

Updated the OP with the list of Makers who have signed up so far:

Who's In:
OrangeRKN
OldSoulCyborg
Tomous
Pedz
Victor Mildew

If a few of the fence sitters can be tempted over to the dark side then we're on our way to a strong field! :toot:

As a tease here is the work in progress version of what may well end up being the round 1 guidelines:

Image

Oh no! Kamek's magic has been unleashed and the world we once knew has become twisted and changed before our eyes! What new traps and challenges will await Mario when he returns to his old stomping grounds!?

Using any level from World 1 of Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3 or Super Mario World as a basis create a twist on an existing level! You can be as inventive or creative as you like but there must be a recognisable sense of the original level still in there! Maybe a new enemy type has overrun the space? Perhaps the terrain has shifted and new obstacles have appeared to thwart Mario? Maybe the whole look and feel of the world has changed in terms of theming and ambience?! Whatever you do just make sure the player gets a new twist on one of these opening spaces!

That's a great idea

For what it's worth I can't guarantee I'll submit every week, but I will try my best obviously, and bearing that in mind I would definitely like to play! Please do count me as "in" if that's OK. But if you're only looking for players who can 100% commit then that's fair enough too and no worries.
