For what it's worth I can't guarantee I'll submit every week, but I will try my best obviously, and bearing that in mind I would definitely like to play! Please do count me as "in" if that's OK. But if you're only looking for players who can 100% commit then that's fair enough too and no worries.

Glad you like it :D

I'm happy to add you to the list on that basis Karl, I enjoyed your courses last time so I'm sure anything you can contribute will add to everyone's fun!

On the note of commitment and availability that has come up a couple of times I've been mulling over some potential changes to the format/timing of the competition that might help those who worry about finding themselves short of time on a specific week or even a regular basis. Last time out the structure was as follows:

* Guidelines released at the start of week 1
* Makers work on the levels through week 1
* Makers submit at the end of the week 1
* Levels played on stream at end of week 1
* Makers play each others levels during week 2
* Makers submit ranking for each others levels at end of week 2
* Results announced on stream for the round
* Next set of guidelines released ...

What would people think about potentially bringing forward the release of the next set of guidelines to the end of week 1 (possibly announced during the stream?) rather than waiting until after week 2? Playing and voting on the other levels would still need to happen before the week 2 deadline but it means that makers would have two weeks in which they could be working on their next course rather than just 1? Even if people don't want to muddy the waters of that week and remain focused on playing and ranking the levels of others it would at least give time for people to start thinking about what they do for the next round?

It's just a thought at this point, I'm open to views either way!

If a few of the fence sitters can be tempted over to the dark side then we're on our way to a strong field! :toot:

As a tease here is the work in progress version of what may well end up being the round 1 guidelines:

Image

Oh no! Kamek's magic has been unleashed and the world we once knew has become twisted and changed before our eyes! What new traps and challenges will await Mario when he returns to his old stomping grounds!?

Using any level from World 1 of Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3 or Super Mario World as a basis create a twist on an existing level! You can be as inventive or creative as you like but there must be a recognisable sense of the original level still in there! Maybe a new enemy type has overrun the space? Perhaps the terrain has shifted and new obstacles have appeared to thwart Mario? Maybe the whole look and feel of the world has changed in terms of theming and ambience?! Whatever you do just make sure the player gets a new twist on one of these opening spaces!

I really like this idea

Hmm, I do need to get back playing this as I am still waiting for a PS5. I’ll think about it. At the least it would be good to play some of your levels

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Join us Rubix, you know you want to!

Obviously it's up to you but all I can say is that I had a hell of a lot of fun taking part last time out and it made me far more appreciative of both how great the game is and just what a bunch of fantastic and creative people we have around here!

Yeah, this is a great idea. Almost tempts me in to commiting to this, as its my lack of creativity when it comes to riffing on a main theme in a meaningfull way that holds me back. This objective really focuses the mind and gets you thinking about the detail straight away.

I will certianly be playing these levels.

I'm gooseberry fool at creating levels, so I'm happy just to make a single screen based on this idea.

Glad people are liking the tease guidelines :D

I can't promise that every week will be as focused as this one but I'm hoping that the list I've been building up will present some interesting challenges and act as a nice stimulant to everyone's creativity!

I'm going to leave sign ups open until the end of the month This will give anyone on the fence a bit of time to decide either way as well as letting me finalise a few things so that we can hit the ground running.

I'm going to chase any previous AYAMMM participants who haven't expressed a view on this yet either, so if you're someone in that camp then expect a poking! :P

Had a play about with getting my streaming setup ready for this last night and it's all looking good.

Might try and do a warm up stream at some point over the next week or so - perhaps playing through some of last years AYAMMM courses as a refresher! :toot:

Oh and speaking of previous AYAMMM content, it's time to get poking people!

Hey, Jen, this sounds like a cool event.

I need to have a think, though. It is brilliant but it does take a degree of commitment, too; I spent quite some time building courses in previous runs of this.

Will pop back here soon :-).

No worries Jawa, I appreciate the commitment level is definitely a factor to consider!

Sign ups are open until the end of the month so mull it over and see what you think. It would be great to see some more jawasteps™ action though! :D

If we end up with no E3 or Jawasteps in 2021 then the year is a guaranteed write off.

I'm thinking about signing up but I know my motivation in the last one was at an all time low so I'm not sure if I should sign up to this or not. If I sign up I want to do a good job, but if I can't do that then it may not be worth it. Will let you know!

It's great to see the contest back as it has always been a lot of fun but I found during the last one that I was lacking in time and ideas. I won't sign up to compete but will try to follow the thread and vote Lime :toot:

It's a bit of fun on a small forum, don't worry about how good ypur output will be, just take part.

Thing is I genuinely couldn't be bothered last time and it made me frustrated - I barely played anyone elses levels before voting and made all my levels in a rush on the final day. :fp:
