I had a comment on my last level. It said.

'Too Long'

(If you hadn't noticed that was placed in the level over the boomerang spawner so I think they specifically meant the timer took too long to spawn a new powerup. At least that's how I would interpret that placement!)

I never turn on the "view comments in levels" option - I don't know how anyone actually plays with that on!

Do those comments still appear in the main list of comments as well?

Ah, I didn't realise that. I personally like the timer being a little long, it means you get the power up but have to keep on your toes to not lose it before getting another. It, to me, makes it feel more of a challenge than it just spawning over and over. Obviously, people will have different opinions and that's fine, but I think it was fine.

Yeah I think you're right on that one - it does take a while to get the power up but it's a nice balance between making it too easy by having it spawn straight into the arena and the flip side which is just having a fight that is too hard and you have to keep dying and starting again.

Yeah they do, it can be a bit annoying that comments tagged in specific spots in levels appear in the general comments with no indication as to what they are aimed at. This comment being a good example because you would misread it as a general comment!

I have view comments in levels turned on, it's only really a problem if you play the really popular levels. Occasionally I've seen levels actually using comments by the creator as part of the level - as a hack for character dialogue for example. It's fiddly but kind of cool!

Yeah it was fine, as you say much better than a non-timer powerup spawner that just trivialises a boss fight. The commenter was obviously just salty!

Ah now that is quite a cool idea! What happens when other people make comments at the same spot though, do they not end up getting stacked on top of each other which would obscure the creators messages?

I don’t think I even used the boomerang on PEDZ level as I still had fire power

Yeah I think it can mess it up. I've not looked into it very deeply whether you can disable comments while preserving those already there or something.

I now want to go back and replay my own levels with comments on to see if any of them were relating to specific points in the level as opposed to just being general points!

Watching the score reveals - I'm gutted for Pedz now as I see the point of you should vote regardless and then Jenuall docs points based on penalties.

FWIW Oldsoulcyborg's was my stand out this time. Loved the look of it.

Yeah it's a tricky situation as I tried to get across on the stream.

Ultimately people are submitting ranks based on their own criteria for what makes a level good/bad/on theme/clever etc. and if people find that someone not following the rules is a reason to rank a level lower then I don't think that is entirely unreasonable.

Broadly speaking I've been trying to create the guidelines this time around to be as open as possible, whilst still giving a clear direction for the round - the idea being to limit the need for any penalties because there are fewer specific rules to break!

When all of this is complete there will no doubt be plenty of room for a post mortem on what went well and what could be improved upon in any potential future contests!

I can't speak to how things were in the much earlier competitions, as I didn't take part in them, but I think "how well it addresses the theme" is a valid criterion to vote on. It's not my main consideration, but I've definitely factored it into votes in both this and the previous competition. Of course everyone will have their own system for how they rate the levels, but I think if you sit down to rank them, and you liked them all but you're aware that one did break from the theme, it's understandable to pop that one lower down your list.

I think the most important thing is to have fun making levels, and to have fun playing them too. I think any level that other people enjoy is a success. I really think there's been good fun to be had with every single level so far. I hope everyone realises that!

Same happened to me in week 2 when I messed up the rules.
