My guess as to Rubix's level was that it would be a guitar hero style rhythm game, so I was way off. Minor credit for it being a mini-game based on another game maybe?

TBH I never tried and didn’t realise you couldn’t pick them up in SMB. I think I was way past it. Took me so long to find out what would drop and how they drop and how to make lines and how to clear them as the line is formed and how to start the blocks dropping and how to push mario out from the bottom before he got crushed and/or stuck.

Round 7 Guidelines

Uh Oh! Mario is having something of a mid-life crisis. The plumbing business doesn't really spark the same joy as it once did and the 35 years of rejection from Peach has really started to wear him down! But just as every ~~Cuthbert~~ Colin Caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly like the ones it used to gaze at from afar, so to Mario has decided to re-invent himself in the image and trappings of one of his fellow gaming super stars! But who will form the inspiration for his re-incarnation?

The aim of the game for this round is to make a level that evokes another franchise! You can recreate the layout of another space, try to replicate some specific mechanics, or simply create something that evokes the feel of your chosen franchise. The choice is yours! :toot:

Is Mario going to find himself in an R-Type style shmup bullet hell? Is he going to be exploring a recreation of a famous level from another platforming franchise? What twists might the Mario gameplay bring to such a space?

Are you going to try and recreate the mechanics of another genre with the tools that Mario Maker provides? We've already seen flavours of Metroidvania, Pinball and Tetris make their way into this years contest, will we see more of these or possibly even something entirely new? Maybe even something featuring a Koopa Trooper Car?!

Interesting. The obvious thing would be to do another Zelda themed level, but it seems a bit obvious.

I made so many of those kinds of levels in Mario Maker 1 that now I have no idea what I'm doing anymore lmao.

It is so ridiculously easy to go "Excitebike!" and just use the Koopa Car as a replacement for the bike, but I'm going for something else if I can work it.

Ive done one, not sure if I am happy with it. I'll keep it as a may be its very short but looking at the layout online ive covered everything

Excitebike is a nice idea TBF!

I might actually make my own level for this round as one of the reasons I came up with the theme is I'd had a few ideas in this area recently! :lol:

It's definitely a good theme for getting the imagination running - had a few cool ideas already but not settled on one yet.

It's a great theme, lots you can do, although I can see there being some obvious ones, so got to try and think of something a bit more obscure.
