Yeah I have everything down to be given away if I die, and if it can help someone else then thats fantastic. :) Although to be fair I'd prefer not to die!

Exactly. If some good can come out of your death, surely that is preferable? My friends accident was devastating to her friends and family, but the fact that her death allowed four other people to live was some consolation for her family and everyone who knew her.

Opt out, and anyone who opts out and doesn't provide a valid reason should be denied organs should they need them. Seems fair...

Yeah I reckon so. A friend of mine died in a car accident about 18 months ago and all his organs were donated and I'm sure have gone to good use. After all they're no use buried in the ground/turned into Ash, particularly when they can save someone elses life and the heartbreak of another family.

Always keep my card in my wallet behind my driver's license (since they would take it out as identification if I died).

I think the main reason so many aren't registered is because they don't like thinking about their own death, particularly their own death before old age. If it was opt out people wouldn't have to give it much thought and most of them would be okay with it all. I refuse to believe that the magority are so selfish that they would not wish to donate.

If they don't make it opt out, then they should really change the waiting list system for recieving organs so that anyone who has been a registered donar for over a year automatically goes to the top.

I too am uneasy about the idea of giving away my organs, you can argue that I won't miss them because I'm dead, but you could also argue that I wouldn't care about other people dying because I'd be dead.

I give blood several times a year and I'd probably give away bone marrow or a kidney whilst I was alive, but there's something about having my dead body hollowed out that doesn't sit right with me, how do I know they'd put me back together neatly if they didn't have to worry about keeping me alive?

And what if it had a negative effect on my ghosting ability? I don't want to be losing out on potential afterlife fun for the sake of saving a few lives.

I'm all for an opt-out system though, but I definitely would opt out.

The whole subject will be moot in a few years anyway when they can grow organs in a lab from stem cells.

I'm not registered, but I want to be. I just haven't got round to it.

There is absolutely no point in not passing on your organs if you can. 'I don't like the idea of my bits being inside someone else' is such a gooseberry fool reason, because it isn't a reason, it's just a superstitious gut reaction. The only valid reason is if giving your organs is against your religion, and while I find this an equally poxy reason, at least it has some specific merit as an excuse.

I'm all for an 'opt-out' system.

I guess a religious belief that was established thousands of years ago could have more validity than "I just don't want to.", though I personally still don't see that as a decent enough excuse.

If you don't want to give your organs away when you don't need them, I suppose there is nothing anyone could do about that (short of stealing them), but you shouldn't get anyone else's if you need one, simple. If you don't give, you don't get. That goes for any reason for not donating.

More to the point, I'm sure the families of the people my friend saved are very grateful, just like you would be if she had saved your wife/daughter/son/father.

Actually, it's more daft because at least 'I don't like the idea of it' is a personal choice, which means some kind of consideration. Unlike going with something out of sheer obedience to a decission made for you.

This is a very good point.

Organ Donors > Hellboy > Religious Non-Donors.

BTW, I do actually love Anung, like a step-father with boundary issues loves his newly acquired hot teen stepdaughter.

Yup, I'm registered. Anything donated. It's something I feel strongly about. If my inevitable death could be used to help others... it should be. I genuinely can't think of a single reason why I personally wouldn't want to donate.

Agreed on all fronts. I wasn't suggesting a religious reason is better than a considered reason, but we're yet to hear Anung's reasons apart from 'I don't like the feel of it', which isn't a reason.

I'm an organ donor. (Oddly I can't give blood, but can do this).

I try and give my organ to people as often as I can too.
