Last Tuesday morning I found my dad dead sitting in a chair in my lounge. He died from bronchialpneumonia, chronic alcoholism and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. He was 64 and looked like an 80 year old, he was using a walking stick and shuffled about.

Maybe, it depends on whether you have a change of heart upon receiving an organ. Unless you're not allowed to donate after that?

No, what I mean is that if someone is against donating their organs (like Anung and Fatal Exception) then they should also be against receiving a donated organ. It would be hypocritical to accept someone else's generosity, but deny the same thing to someone else.

A 'friend' of mine once actually said "Yeah, I wouldn't give my organs away if I was dead, but I'd take someone else's if I was dying."

Selfish.

Also, glad to hear you're doing well Xeno. I couldn't imagine losing my mother, but if I was the one to find her as well... Probably couldn't handle it.

Why not?

As far as I'm concerned it shouldn't be obligatory but it should definitely be Opt-out. And you shouldn't need the permission of the next of kin if you are a registered donor which my (admittedly cloudy) understanding of the situation believes can sometimes be the case.

No, I don't want people scooping around in my body once i'm dead. An episode of something on TV long ago put me off that a long time ago.

I would definitely donate my organs. Do you have to be 18 to sign up?

Like, in the scale of positions to be in where you might care about where your organs are, it's like the least.

Of all.

'Coz you're DEAD.

No. At least I wasn't.

Anung, would you accept someone else's kidney, if yours failed? Surely someone else's organs inside you would creep you out just as much as your organs being inside someone else?

And I would like to echo Skarjo. You will be dead. You no longer need to pieces of meat that used to keep you alive. However, someone else might...

So essentially, you're happy to take, but not to give?

Register

Is there a minimum age to join the NHS Organ Donor Register?

No. Parents and guardians can register their children and children can register themselves. Children who are under 12 in Scotland and under 18 in the rest of the UK at the time of registration will require their parent or guardian's agreement for donation to take place.

Children over 12 in Scotland are considered legally competent to register themselves and their parent/guardian does not have the legal right to veto or overrule their wishes.

Are organs classed as meat or offal? Just wondering.

I have a donor card somehwere and started giving blood last year but for some reason I don't like the idea of someone else having my eyes. Odd I know.
