Send the letters only in Welsh then

I understand why, I just have always had a bit of a chip on my shoulder about. A letter for a blood test doesn't need to be in Welsh. If the person speaks english, just send it in the one language, if the person says they speak welsh, then send it in the one language. Don't waste trees.

Are there actually Welsh people who can only speak Welsh?

I always thought all the Welsh (and Gaelic) language stuff was more about preserving cultural heritage than catering to a demographic who literally can't speak any other language.

I think Glyn from big brother could only speak welsh. Noone else though.

Even in places like Cardiff, Swansea and Newport there are a significant number of first language Welsh speakers and I think it's absolutely justified that printed and other communication in Wales is bilingual.

I find that most letters I receive tend to be printed in a more compact and space conscious style than those in England - accomodating both languages across a similar amount of physical space and paper that the English equivalent would have used for just one translation

If Welsh was eradicated, we'd never have got one of the best red dwarf jokes.

I just don't see any legitimate reason to get narked about there being the native language on government correspondence. Welsh is an official language, so is English, it makes sense to use both. If you're that concerned about paper waste, English only correspondence is still infinitely more wasteful than any form of digital communication, so why aren't you simply pushing for that, instead of asking for the removal of a language that clearly matters a lot to many people, and has seen a marked effort in recent years to have reinvigorated?

As odd as it sounds, the UK doesn't actually have an official language as such.

Neither do Australia, New Zealand and Canada, among other English speaking countries.

The UK doesn't have an official language, but Wales does. Under Welsh law, both English and Welsh are the official languages of Wales.
