Sad but true. :( Needs to go back to the county game to work on his batting.

Can't wait to see everybody's favourite player Joe Denly opening today (well, provided Root wins the toss). Balladeer will be rejoicing.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Most New England openers seem to get a high score early on before they drop off a cliff. Hopefully Denly’s will be in the first innings.

If Root wins the toss I still think England are favourites.

Can you imagine celebrating a Joe Denly debut ton later tonight? Joe frigging Denly!

I can! I can also imagine watching him score nothing of note for the next six Tests he gets after that. Yes, including vs. Ireland.

Jofra Archer had 0-19 off 0.3 at the start of his spell in the Big Bash a while ago. Hurricanes are playing the Aus U19 spinner who just gives everyone hope of being a professional athlete without following the required lifestyle (no offence to the guy at all - but he stands out from the rest of the pitch - Mark Cosgrove style).

Root lost the toss but we're still batting first.

Bat first.

Bat deep.

Bat long.

I predict that two of those things will happen.

Root for me is going to end up with an average in the low 40s. This after averaging 55 a couple of years ago. CricViz did an excellent article a while back on how he is a completely different batsman now than he used to be, clearly to his detriment.
