Is that a strawberry floating joke?

Watch NZ grind for a day and do that straight away.

Tbh I was hoping England would kick on a bit in this second test after being pretty loose in the first one, which was perhaps a bit naive of me. Just isn't happening - they haven't got going at all.

Without Stokes, our batting line-up is actually looking alarmingly unproven. So many batsmen averaging 30, and that being a realistic average for their ability in test batting.

Nothing to add to the above. Absolute shambles.

Isn't this one of those performances where people start questioning whether the captain should remain as captain?

Mark Wood is our highest scorer in this innings and was only 10 runs or so away from being our top scorer overall. strawberry floating batsmen need to hang their heads in shame. Dreadful performance.

It's been an eye-opening couple of tests.

Burns is basically the only batsman to come away with any credit. The bowlers have been fine, as good as the Kiwis. It's the batting that is always the problem.

That said, Joe's made a big misstep in not selecting a spinner. We now know that selection comes down to Root with some input from Silverwood.

Just watched the end of day interviews from yesterday.

Silverwood in total denial that they should have picked a proper spinner, completely adament that they got the team balance right.

Lessons learned is an alien concept to this bunch.

Was having a think earlier about England's collapses over the years and how nothing really changes despite the revolving door of players.

I reckon the ECB needs to take proper responsibility for repeated failure over the years. Time and time again, England's test team do not offer value for money. Considering the obscene prices supporters have to pay for Sky Sports or, if you can break the bank once in a while, tickets to watch it live, I think it's time this starts to hit the players in the pocket.

Every time they offer a substandard performance, 25% of their match fee goes into a subsidy pot. At the end of each year, that pot is divided up and offered up as a refund for all paying customers.

They went through a great spell around 2005-2015, or thereabouts. Getting loads of big scores with Strauss, Vaughan, Trescothick, Cook, Trott, Bell, Pietersen, Flintoff, Prior, etc, scoring steady centuries with good test batting technique. They even got 3 innings victories in a single series in Australia in 10/11, which now seems like a bizarre fantasy from an alternate reality.

Something's gone wrong since then. Almost every current new generation English batsman I see at the crease looks way too jittery IMO. Even the defensive ones. It's as if test batting is a dying art, but other countries don't seem to have a problem producing batsmen who still have the right mindset.

I don't really follow CC much these days so I don't know if there are some fundamental issues which could be causing it.

It's pushed to the margins of the season which doesn't help much. Nonetheless from what I hear it's still one of the strongest domestic FC championships in the world. Maybe the Shield is better? I certainly haven't heard anyone saying that New Zealand's is superior.

I remain fully convinced that it is just a matter of time until Kyle Jamieson is the #1 ranked ICC Test bowler.

I reckon anything above 120 and it could be a fairly rocky chase for NZ. This afternoon could be a stormer.

139 to win for NZ in about 1.5 sessions. Could be a nail biter.
