An excellent article demonstrating why Chris Woakes really shouldn't be considered for away tests: https://wickets.substack.com/p/chris-wo ... py-tourist

Did we need an excellent article for that though?

That's probably as good a side as they can put out given the squad. The middle order did enough to keep their places ahead of Pope and Lees should get at least a few tests before we repeat the opener cycle again. I guess Overton only keeps his place because Robinson is still injured but I bet he'd have got in ahead of Mahmood if Robinson had played.

Overton and Woakes are the two issues I have - Robinson and Wood, er, would have played if fit, but Woakes would have made the cut ahead of Overton for sure.

I was going to say that was a remarkably brave bit of selection for England but then read that Overton was sick. Good luck to both Fisher and Mahmood though, it's a very inexperienced attack.

Are we contractually obliged to give up a wicket in the first 5 overs?

Think Creepy was a tad unlucky, he's trying to keep the bat out the way there, not going for a Vince-esque drive.

Rooty Tooty :toot:

Great opportunity to go big and grind their bowlers into the dust.

This is obviously a terrible pitch, but they still have to get the runs, and so they've been doing.

I fear this is going to lead to another draw due to the slow pitch, but it's been a nice break from the usual ineptitude.

If nothing else it might allow some batters not named Joe Root to play themselves into some form.

Did Mahmood gooseberry fool on Joe Root's cornflakes this morning?

Happy with yesterday, but I do think YJB missed an opportunity - with Stokes pushing the run rate on there was no need for Bairstow to start teeing off. When you see Chris Woakes made 40-odd there might have been a century on the table for Jonny. Nevermind.

Pitch looks like it's going to take some turn which encouraging for Leach.

Big day for Leach, looks like he's going to be bowling a lot.
