Yup. England now have no good batsmen in the top five.

To be fair, the bounce on that was ridiculous.

Did he just walk down the wicket there? I didn't actually see that incorrectly did I?

You’re watching this? That sounds depressing.

I'm off work sick, writing lecture slides and the cricket is genuinely making me feel worse.

Ffs. I understand why you would do that in these conditions but Bairstow's approach has been so successful, why do the walking down the wicket malarky? Sigh. Bairstow with 51 out of 71 team runs thus far.

I’ve got to say that this pitch is looking like a bit of a shiter. When England bowl I’m sure they won’t be able to get the same uneven bounce, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t uneven bounce or that it’s not dangerous.

Well that still went down the plughole. It's almost as if it doesn't actually make much difference whether we talk about it in the thread or not... :shifty:

My assessment of the day is that Windies bowled reasonably well but had a lot of assistance from the pitch which appears to have lost its lustre very quickly. Our bowlers, sans Stokes, bowled really well in the evening. But again, again, AGAIN it’s the batting that has let us down.

Burns: Got out to a great delivery. No issue.
Denly: Out wafting, not great when the pitch is doing a lot and he needs to be keeping it tight.
Bairstow: Just missed a straight one. Probably hadn’t refocused from coming back until lunch, which I guess came at an unfortunate time.
Root: Ball got a demon reaction off the pitch… but seriously why is his bat that high in the air. Just drop your shoulders and let it whizz by, Joe.
Stokes: Got a good’n from Gabriel.
Buttler: I mean, walking down the crease, on a pitch where no two balls are doing the same thing… Brainfade.
Moeen: Once he stopped trying to get out every ball he actually batted well. Really unlucky to be dismissed like that, ball clearly leaped up at him way more than normal and thus ballooned into the air.
Foakes: He actually impressed me the most, never looked like getting out, still no idea how he managed to get out like that.

Missed the rest.

Meanwhile, Aussies are stat-padding at home against Sri Lanka.

When they finally get to bat, in the middle of day four, I’m going to jinx all the English batsmen in this thread repeatedly out of spite.

Apart from Rory Burns. There’s always a place for an ugly grafty batsman up the order.

I’m especially going to jinx Buttler.
