Interesting day, the ball hasn't dominated at all, unlike last year. Joe Clarke has made the first century of the season just now, Sam Northeast is stranded on 94* due to bad light. Haseeb Hameed is on 167* against an MCCU team. Vince and Duckett made forties.

My Sussex team got skittled and are now trying to make up for it. It'll be Middlesex, Lancs and Sussex going up. Worcs have lost their star player.

I think the Div 1 race will be close this year between quite a few teams (based on today alone).

Big afternoons ahead for plenty of England hopefuls... Robson, Gubbins and Malan for Middlesex. Hildreth and Ballance batting at 3 to potentially snap up that position in the England squad.

Northeast gone for 169. Joe Clarke 112.

Balla, do you think Durham have a shot at chasing 350 today? The theme in Div 2 this week is that pitches are getting better to bat on each day. As a result I'm resigned to defeat against Leics due to our disgraceful first innings, however, conditions here are helpful for bowling today; it's cold, overcast with a bit of breeze and bluster around.

Wonder if Notts will allow Joe Clarke an over or two to score his second century of the match? I reckon they'll want the extra 21 runs for the next batting bonus point.

There's no better way to state your England credentials by making two centuries in front of Joe Root.

Essex have been remarkably poor in comparison to Hants.

Have they changed the points system this year? I thought bonus points were only gained in the first innings.

Nope, just me being a mong. I swear I make this mistake at the start of every season. :fp:

It wouldn't have surprised me, they seem to strawberry float around with the rules on a yearly basis.

Durham's batting line-up makes a feather seem solid and ungainly. I think they'll beat their first-innings score, as they did basically every match last season (thereby foregoing any chance at batting points cf. the above discussion), and crash out for 200-and-a-bit.

Sussex are strawberry desserted though. Meanwhile, Notts. have shown the same kindness and compassion to Joe Clarke that they did to smaller counties last year.

Also why is Cameron Bancroft your club captain for the season??

Is Beefy just trying to be controversial to get some publicity?

We've got a wicket! Only 8 left to get with 113 runs left to play with.

Got it in the bag, clearly.

High jinxing potential, but this is a wonderful innings from Durham's makeshift opener. 11 off 95 currently. Dig in lad.

To be fair it doesn't seem like he's a mug. 3 tons in 17 FC innings. Zero 50s though.

It's boom or bust with Durham! (By which I mean, it's bust.)

Kent are clearly missing Balladeer Player of the Year Joe Denly.

Finally into Leics's middle-order but they only need another 54 runs.

Sam Billings has a lot to answer for.

Reckon you’ve lost this one Drumstick. Which is... not what I expected.

Agreed, should have been the safest possible fixture all season.

This Harte could actually be a decent opener for Durham. I mean, he isn't up against a particularly good attack but still, they should continue the experiment IMO.

Apart from the Durham match! Re. Harte, one of them's going to make way for Bancroft. Richardson has set himself up nicely to be dropped.

Game-saving ton for Malan. Back in the Ashes side with him!

(I'm kidding.) (I hope I'm kidding.)

For the briefest of moments my blood pressure was raised. A Malan ton is definitely Bad News (tm) though because the clowns in the England camp will let it muddy the waters.

Essex bundled out twice in two days. Poor old Ravi, ran out of partners in the first innings and a ton in the second. One of those "didn't deserve to be on the losing side" type performances.
