He was on a bit of a hiding to nothing though after being sat for a day in his pads.

Alastair Cook has taken an absolute hammering today on TMS. It's been absolutely hilarious  - I've also achieved the holy grail of syncing TMS on the BBC website perfectly with Sky Go.

Ooh, well done! I've been crying with laughter at the Cookisms. It feels all a bit Carole Baskin-ish.

England stuffing this just a bit.

450+ is fine. Declare now, 90 mins of Woakes, Broad, Stokes and Curran.

Also:

ROSTON CHASE.

How does this guy turn into Murali when he sizes up our team?

Worth the extra hour for that high-class comedy cricket.

Stat on the Sibley/Stokes partnership:

Between them, the fourth-wicket pair shared 260, England's largest partnership on home soil for nine years.

I was 50% surprised, 50% not surprised.

Curran takes one wicket the previous night of play, and could have had two - so what does Root do? Give the ball to Woakes and Broad first thing.

One of the seven wonders of the sporting world, a Stuart Broad magic spell.

Could be. Hoping that we get back some of the overs we lost. I wouldn't want less than 70 overs with the ball. Set them 275 as a tempter, though I think that would be sufficient.

Hopefully Broad and Woakes will be able to pick up where they left off. It always amazes me that England bowlers need to be reminded to pitch it up at home.

We want them just grey enough to extract maximum swing, but not grey enough to rain!

I'm hoping for a Shannon Gabriel repeat of this at 6:53pm this evening:

I was watching that live on my phone at work when it happened.

My heart really went out to Roston Chase in that moment. 6 wickets in the match, top scored with 69 in the first innings, sitting on 101* (239) in the second, his only mistake was leaving Gabriel the strike in the penultimate over.

Root actually looks better batting like this than he did in the first innings.
