Definitely not a bad call. I’d pick Bancroft for similar reasons: if you can thrive at CLS you can thrive anywhere. He took some time to acclimatise but is now the main reason Durham have any hopes of promotion. My Ashes XI, assuming Hazlewood is fit:

Bancroft, Warner, Smith (I know), Labuschagne, Head, Paine, Carey, Starc, Cummins, Lyon, Hazlewood.

I’d say Siddle could force his way in there, probably over Cummins or on a really green deck where Labuschagne is spin enough.

Aussie XI playing Aussie XI today for test spots.

One day of play - cumulative total: 201/17.

Either our bowlers are totally sorted, or our batsmen are totally screwed :lol;

Or both!

Admission 1: I want Ireland to win the toss.
Admission 2: I want Ireland to win the match.

I know they won’t. But I do. Am I still allowed to post here?

Yes.

Brendon McCullum, your record for fastest test century has mere minutes left.

I'm half Irish and half English so I'm pretty much split down the middle in my national sporting allegiances. Football it's ROI, rugby I don't really care about but probably Ireland, Olympics it's Team GB but I find myself cheering on Irish competitors as well. Irish cricket wasn't really a thing when we were kids though so I didn't really have a choice about supporting England.

I would like Ireland (and Afghanistan) to pick up a few test victories quite quickly, it'd be a shame if it turned out like Italy in the Six Nations. Although this close to an Ashes series I can't say I want them to win this one! When are they playing Australia and India? They can win those

I want to see Murtagh bowling an eight-over opening spell and getting four of the top five please. Doesn’t seem that unlikely at the moment.

EDIT: Still on.

Right about now, I'm really glad I don't have Ashes tickets.

This is the only reason why this isn’t tremendous.

But sure, keep Ireland out of the WC to reduce mismatches.

It’s not quite the same, no. England can bat in white ball, for one thing. But the shorter the format, the more ripe for unexpected results, and let’s be honest: it’s a sunny day, and Ireland were whomped in their last away match. If they can win here (and they should), they could certainly turn a few games in the WC.

Anyway the main point is that a ten-team ‘World’ Cup is still nonsense.

I liked this World Cup because, abandoned matches excluded, everyone got to play everyone at least once.
