Most New England openers seem to get a high score early on before they drop off a cliff. Hopefully Denly’s will be in the first innings.

If Root wins the toss I still think England are favourites.

I can! I can also imagine watching him score nothing of note for the next six Tests he gets after that. Yes, including vs. Ireland.

Jofra Archer had 0-19 off 0.3 at the start of his spell in the Big Bash a while ago. Hurricanes are playing the Aus U19 spinner who just gives everyone hope of being a professional athlete without following the required lifestyle (no offence to the guy at all - but he stands out from the rest of the pitch - Mark Cosgrove style).

Root lost the toss but we're still batting first.

Bat first.

Bat deep.

Bat long.

I predict that two of those things will happen.

Root for me is going to end up with an average in the low 40s. This after averaging 55 a couple of years ago. CricViz did an excellent article a while back on how he is a completely different batsman now than he used to be, clearly to his detriment.
