Buttler is to replace Duckett and bat at 7. I wonder if they will boost JB up to 4?

Vaughan reckons the pitch will break up relatively quickly so the result will almost certainly go to whoever wins the toss.

Yeah it isn't good. Hameed is the only one who can feel hard done by (again), very little he could do.

If we want a chance to win this then we need to keep their lead to less than 60.

So all we need to do is bat for 5 sessions which should be enough to get the draw.

I hope our top order (sans JB and HH) all feel suitably embarrassed about their performances in the first innings. I think deep down we all know that those cheap dismissals are going to be the critical and deciding factor.

Ummmmm. So exactly what the strawberry float was that shot in this situation?! Embarrassing in both innings from Moeen.

Indeed. Just no need for it. Just because he's invited to come down the wicket doesn't mean he has to. He seems to fall foul of this a LOT.

So Hameed's tour is over which is a massive shame. I'm sure this will have helped his development and prepared him for what test cricket is like but all the same I'm sure he'd rather be playing.

Not sure who England are going to replace him with. Any guesses?

You'd have to assume Duckett or are they planning to fly someone over?

This all comes back to the farcical squad selection announcement. Poorly planned, poorly timed and the team are now even more ill-equipped than they were to start with. Can’t play Duckett or Ballance as both have shown themselves to be walking wickets in this environment, doing so will destroy their confidence. So that means they've got to make a very quick decision in order to allow whomever they call up time to acclimatise to the atmosphere and surroundings out there. Personally I would go with Billings. He impressed in Roy's stead in the final ODI vs. Bangladesh, has experience of the pitches in India and is a competent player of spin. Not a traditional test opener by any means but I'd give him a go.

Have they announced a ODI squad for the India tour? Might be worth using someone who would be going along on that. On that basis I guess we're looking at Roy or maybe Hales back in?

EDIT: Scratch all that.

England have called up uncapped duo Keaton Jennings and Liam Dawson to their tour of India.

Durham opener Jennings, 24, replaces Lancashire's Haseeb Hameed, 19, who will miss the remaining two Tests after breaking his left hand.

Hampshire all-rounder Dawson, 26, comes in for Zafar Ansari, who has been struggling with a back injury.
