They’re just surprisingly rubbish this time around. Can definitely see them in the bottom three.

I'm not sure if it's to do with their squad selection or whether they have just not got the players, but out of the playing XI yesterday they only have about half a team's worth of players that are good enough.

QdK, Faf, Morris, Rabada, Tahir, all pass.

Van der Dussen, Ngidi and Phehlukwayo are worth persisting with.

Miller and Duminy are just too unreliable and rarely seem to contribute in a meaningful way, get rid. Amla was a great ODI player but his powers have waned significantly, so he needs putting out to pasture. Markram just doesn't strike me as an effective LOI player and I don't understand why he is in the squad.

Markram’s an odd one. The way he plays (and does well enough) in Tests, you’d think he’d be even better in LO. He’s the reverse of all those limited overs players England keep shoving into the Test team and are then surprised when they don’t do well.

Miller I think has credit in the bank from previous high-pressure finishing moments: the question, as with Amla, is whether he’s past it. Duminy is shite and I’m not sure why he’s still anywhere near the national setup (apart from not having run away to become a Kolpak).

Heard some journalists suggesting that SA are where England were four years ago in LO. If so, look out!

Also, Faf is 34. He will almost certainly be out of the picture by the next World Cup so. Tahir is even older. if I were the South Africa team management, I'd bin Duminy and Markram (for different reasons, obv), spell it out to Miller that carrying him will no longer be tolerated and sacrifice the next few years to identify new talent. I'd ask Faf to step aside in terms of his captaincy but to stick around for a couple of years to assist whomever the next captain is because his leadership is and has always been excellent. I'd then look to assimilate him into some sort of team mentor role.

But then the question is, who is gonna be captain? There isn't a stand out candidate.

Bleh, would've liked to bat first, we'll only end up having to chase 250.
