Who's the back up keeper? Foakes must have really hacked someone off at the ECB.

Pope I guess? That aside it’s a good squad!

Absolutely excellent to see Tom Banton called up from Somerset. I've seen seven or eight of his T20 innings this year and he is absolutely exceptional.

Bayliss leaves and all of a sudden Ed produces two good squads.

And he's grown the balls to drop Bairstow from the Test team.

Am I right in thinking the NZ series isn't included in the rankings for test team? Think I heard it on TMS and that would explain the decision to be a bit more experimental in the line up.

I’d say ‘sensible’ more than ‘experimental’, but Smith probably equates the two doesn’t he.

It doesn't count toward the World Test Championship but I don't think Ed Smith is bothered by that.

This will likely come back to bite me but I am looking forward to watching the above XI (or something very close to it) in the NZ tests.

I presume you’ve all seen the launch of the Hundred, the Greatest Thing to Happen to Cricket TM? Franchises sponsored by crisps, a Welsh team encompassing two non-Welsh counties, and irritatingly some quite decent players.

No thanks.

They’ve screwed the pooch amazingly on the southwestern team. Amazingly.

To be fair re. the Hundred it would probably take less time to describe all the things they haven’t screwed the pooch on.

The only positive thing about any of this is that it will be on free to view TV. Everything else sounds pretty awful.

The press are now claiming that Ben Stokes applied a choke-hold to his wife during an 'altercation' during last week's PCA Awards ceremony in London.

Scum.
