Stokes needs to sort out that conversion rate. 12 half centuries but only pushing on to the full 100 3 times? Sort it out! :capnscotty:

Edit: And Morgan for that matter!

Roy’s average is sub-40, drop him immediately.

Oh wait - they did, twice. :toot:

He looks better than ever now, though, doesn't he? :toot: Still don't want him near the test team though. :dread:

Since the topic of conversion rate has been mentioned (Hi Jen!), perhaps now is a good time to mention that in 6 of the last 7 times he has crossed 50, Joe Root has gone on to score a century.

113* vs. India (2nd ODI)
100* vs. India (3rd ODI)
125 vs. India (5th Test)
71 vs. Sri Lanka (2nd ODI)
124 vs. Sri Lanka (2nd Test)
122 vs. West Indies (3rd Test)
102 vs. West Indies (1st ODI)

‘Roy for Test opener!’ Why not promote Rohit Sharma to open while you’re at it? :dread:

Yes now the problem is that he doesn’t score enough 50s. :P In Tests, I should specify.

Exactly what they said on last night's TMS podcast.

Tino Best had the good sense to succinctly say that he didn't feel Roy's technique would stand up at test level.

Remember when Alex Hales opened?

I’ve blotted it from my memory.

I remember when Alex Hales bowled though.

I know you're joking, but presumably he has less chance to convert 50 into 100 because he bats lower down and will come in with far fewer balls remaining.

That's correct. He also has to deal with the onus being on him to get a move on and up the RR as much as he can, which will typically involve playing higher risk shots, increasing the chances of him getting out.

Also worth pointing out that before the 2015 World Cup, Stokes had played 19 ODI innings and had a batting average of 16. His current batting average is now, after 65 innings, 36.72.

Because the national team went under such a radical transformation immediately after that tournament I generally ignore anything stat-related prior to it. The fact is that since April 2015, five of the top six average over 40 and the one that doesn't probably will after this ODI series.

Good to see the BBC has the ability of the GRcade mockers. Also - an excellent collapse from the England women this morning.

At the risk of also invoking the GRcade mockers, Sri Lanka could be on the brink of something amazing here. Or they could fold wetly, natch.

Hales in, Roy out (hamstring).

Rex will be pleased.

He isn't going to keep out Roy though given recent games so unless they drop Bairstow then I really can't see Hales getting a starting spot.

Keeps the pressure on both J-Roy and YJB, though, which is a good thing.

IMO the pecking order is YJB > Roy > Hales, because even though YJB has been in a small rut in ODIs, I mean, he averages 54(!) as opener. That's Rohit Sharma levels of good. And speaking of Jonny, he looks hungry today.
