The press are dicks and have clearly picked him as a target they feel they can get a reaction out of. Outrageous that this now forms part of his job which should involve bowling a ball fast, catching a ball well, and hitting a ball a long way. Awful.

In other news, good to see Tom Banton picked up by Brisbane Heat.

Aside from one innings, South Africa's batsmen have been worse than abysmal in India.

The entire tour has not been fun to watch. If I’m honest the team with the most money also being the best team in the world isn’t fun to watch either.

That said, the toss clearly had quite an impact as well. I don’t think South Africa would necessarily have won a match where they won the toss, out they would have put up a fight I reckon. The toss is far too important in Tests, especially in the subcontinent, and needs something to be done about it.

Didn't realise that there are now successive T20 World Cups in 2020 & 2021. Kind of feel the next two years is going to be less enthralling than the last couple.

Hampshire have secured the red-ball services of Nathan Lyon next season. That's huge for them, if he can do even half of what Simon Harmer has done for Essex, Hants could put together a credible run for the championship.

This would be good to see!

Ridiculous knocks from Malan and Morgan this morning. I'm glad I got up early to watch it.

England Test captain Joe Root says he and new coach Chris Silverwood are "aligned" on a two-year plan to win back the Ashes in Australia.

Root says the team will change their approach, attempting to bat longer and be more patient with the ball.

He also told the BBC's Test Match Special that he hopes to return to batting at number four in England's top order as it "suits his game".

"It definitely fits in with captaincy a little bit better for me," Root said.

"I've found over time that, generally, I've consistently played better in that position."

Root moved up from his preferred position at four for the entirety of the drawn Ashes series in England this summer.

However, his average of 32.5 runs batting at three over the five-match series was 10 runs worse than when he bats a place lower down the order.

"I know previous captains have preferred to get out there early and just get among it but I quite like to split the two and to really focus on my batting."

Chris Silverwood you are indeed a top lad.

Seems like the first choice XI for these tests is going to be:

Burns
Sibley
Denly (Crawley as backup)
Root (c)
Stokes
Pope
Butter (wk)
Curran
Archer
Leach
Broad

Which I'm very happy with.

The only slight issue I have there is Buttler as keeper. He’s not very good. On the other hand that might actually be close to the best top seven batsmen in England, finally.

I think the best XI possible would see Crawley replace Denly and Foakes replace Buttler. And I guess Jimmy comes in for someone when fit.

I’m not sure Crawley’s there yet though. Denly actually put in a couple of decent showings in the Ashes. Neither of them averages over 40 in FC mind you. Jimmy replaces... Broad probably. That keeps the left arm option and the pace option.
