The correct answer is to take £100 trillion, retroactively erase yourself from history and crash the world economy all at once

I feel like sidetracked by dwelling on one question is not the point of this thread, but...

I think I would in all seriousness take exactly £1 million in the scenario. One year is hopefully only around 1.5% of the rest of my life, but I would enjoy that time much more than 1.5%-more with the security of £1 million in the bank. £1 million is enough that I could really focus on the stuff I want to do. I broadly like my job but I think I would probably work "for wages" part-time and then work on a more diverse range of projects in my own time.

The point is that would be a whole big lifestyle change, whereas the relative gain is less clear for £2 million over £1 million.

How about if you can select one closed door of three, behind one of which there is a £1m prize.

The other two doors hide nothing.

Once you have made your selection, l will open one of the remaining doors, revealing that it does not contain the money!

But I'm a kind guy - you can switch your selection to the other unopened door, or stay with your original choice?

What do you do Karl?

It’s only an answerable question of you are first told how long you’re going to live. If I am going to live to 132 then I’d take 10-20 years off of that for £10-20million.

If I am due to die in 2021 then I’d probably not take any money. Although actually I might do so in order that my family would have cash to survive on.

 I'm not sure I fully understand the relevance of the Monty Hall problem to this, but fwiw the objective correct answer is to switch.

You think to switch is the best answer, but what if the other door had an Xbox?

 Fair enough. The Monty Hall problem is pretty interesting.

The most intuitive explanation is to consider what would happen if there were 1000 doors and only one prize. You're overwhelmingly likely to choose a dud door. Then, the host eliminates 998 dud doors, leaving only the door you chose and one other. You'd definitely switch because the scenario where you chose a dud first time and the other door is the prize is so much more likely than the scenario where you chose the prize first time and the other door is a dud.

EDIT:

I'm afraid I'm not a Gamerforever-Approved True Gamer(tm) so I would still have to go for the Switch.

The real prize was the lessons we learned in statistics along the way

You open a door in your house and find £1m, but it makes you a year older and misremember statistics.

So, do you sell your Xbox?

You're on a game show, hosted by Monty Hall, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick door number one, and Monty Hall, who you remember recently from a news article detailing his crippling debt and precipitous position with the network, and who knows what's behind the doors, opens door three, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door number two?" He is sweating profusely, visibly on edge, eyes full of fear as he glances nervously to the wings and then back to you, imploring you to have mercy.

Do you switch door?

No.

Monty Don is in your house bothering goats. Behind the first two doors are a red hat and a blue hat. There is no third door, and behind the fourth door there is a wardrobe filled with a never-ending supply of Turkish delight. The doors aren't real and it's the first day of your French exam, plus you've forgotten to revise and now all your pens have run out. Yet everywhere, there is dancing, so much dancing, and you did this by severing your real arms and replacing them with superhuman cyborg ones.

So, Question - If you could read people's minds, would you do it?

My first impulse is that everybody is slagging me off all the time so no.

If you could choose one super power what would you choose?

This is a trick question, right? The other transformations are Moon <something else> Power Make-Up. You can't catch me out!!!

But OK, I guess my pick is Moon Crystal Power Make-Up from Sailor Moon R? It's pretty cool, it has the whole angel wings thing going on.

Angel Wings? Are you sure you're not thinking about Stars?

I just meant the wings and feathers motif in the Moon Crystal Power Make-Up transformation. I don't mean Moon Eternal Make-Up from Sailor Stars. That transformation also has angel wings, but I find it a bit overwrought to be honest. I mean, matching wing hairclips, a wing brooch, and wing armbands to your actual wings? Usagi, you're a style icon, but no-one can pull that off! And it has worse music.
