On Jotunheim now, really confusing place, too many magical tricks for my liking.

Currently only 35 ish hours into this myself, have you got pretty close to 100% Vermilion? I’d probably be going for a lot less of the wealth on the map if I knew which were ingots so I can upgrade my armour without clearing the map so that’d probably save me a whole lot of time as I think I’m unlikely to stray to far from the starting gear to be honest!

I really need to dedicate some time to this, too much to play though

I've actually gotten really close (even beat that guy and his wallop), it's the fishing (and my lack of competence at catching the ones i need), the last 3 cairns which have left me tearing my hair out, and my inability to collect black bear skins for the hunting hut which have been my main issues.

Even found and collected excalibur and thor's hammer today!

I also can't seem to assassinate from my horse, which has meant i've been unable to earn that trophy.

The horse assassination can be done in the starting town using the training dummies.

Give them a kick or two and then stand up on the horse and the assassination prompt should appear. That's how I did it anyway.

I don’t plan on getting anywhere near the 100% mark  I’ve only found one cairn so far and I can definitely see later ones being a pain to solve! I really need to make some headway with this at some point or I’ll still be playing it come the end of this year, glad I’ve only got one large scale open world game (this) on the go currently though.

It has certainly played a major part in keeping me sane since new year.

That’s been Animal Crossing for me! Plus lots of games in general over the past 11 months, doesn’t feel like I’ve eliminated my small backlog at all though

I’m coming up to around 60 hours

It was nice Vinland was a small map and it felt good that it could be easily 100% completed (mysteries and treasure) before returning to England

Back on this today, thought I’d make a good start on the Asgard section of the game. While Asgard looks amazing it’s really not the best place to explore, seem to need explosive arrows quite a lot (which I’ve not got yet) to get some of the secrets. The teleportation devices are also annoying, would be better if you could select where to go once you’ve been near one.

I don't think you ever need explosive arrows, you just have to hunt around for the oil jars and figure out a path to throw them from the right location

The couple of bits I’ve run past didn’t have any nearby like they usually do, probably just need to look harder!

Yeah sometimes it isn't obvious, I have definitely just "cheated" with explosive arrows on several occasions. I don't like doing it, but then again repeating some variation on "throw pot into wall" isn't exactly the most engaging puzzle design either!

No it’s definitely not, feels like there’s a few bits like that which are just there to add time when there’s enough content there without the need for more time consuming ways of getting to things, plus it’s Asgard so you’d have thought such stuff wouldn’t be hidden behind walls that need demolishing

Just gone to load it back up and there’s an 18.3 GB patch :fp:

New River Raids mode added today. Beware: huge 18GB update (Xbox), so allow time for that.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting another helping of free post-launch content - including a "highly replayable" new River Raids mode - as part of its latest title update, arriving tomorrow, 16th February on all platforms.

Ubisoft hasn't shared much in the way of specifics regarding River Raids mode just yet, but says it'll take adventurers to unexplored regions of the UK, spread across three new maps. Before embarking on raids, however, players are encouraged to construct the new Jomsviking Hall settlement building in order to recruit more Jomsvikings to bring along for support, with new loot, rewards, and challenges promised along the way.

Valhalla's latest title update, which is considered to be part of the game's first season of post-launch content, also introduces a number of new abilities and skills.

Put a fair few hours into Valhalla today and while I still really enjoy the core game some of the other bits do really dull the experience. Whats the point of collecting wealth in Asgard? You get 5 perk points...... which just doesn’t seem worth it to me? I love the story missions, world events (some of which are frankly hilarious), stumbling across Assassin Bureaus and the like but the standard Ubisoft collect-athon just drains the life out of the game a lot for me, I’m only going after the wealth to upgrade the Raven Clan starting gear and once I’ve fully upgraded that I probably won’t bother with the wealth at all. While I’ll definitely play this one to completion (not 100% obviously ) I’m definitely not going to jump into every AC game again, only if I really like the look of the setting they’ve gone for. Plus I’ve still got the main bulk of the Ezio collection to play through after finishing Valhalla.

I did quickly try out the river raids and found it ok, probably more gained from that when you’re grinding out materials to upgrade multiple sets of armour and weapons though.

I’m glad I didn’t actually find them all but rather succumbed to googling to see what the reward was  better that than wasting a few hours for the reward in my opinion.
