Just noticed this on Play.com, seems Asus are making a desktop version of the EEE laptop.

It could be a very viable platform which could see Dell possibly lose some of it's market share.

That's the most pointless thing ever. EEEs are only good because they're small enough to go anywhere. Thats small, but you need to take a monitor, keyboard and mouse with you.

It's a very cheap PC. Perfect as a living room machine. I've just bought an EEEPC 901 as a replacement to my 701 :D Should get delivered next week.

I'm thinking of getting one of those, actually, as an extra PC for the living room. Stick it under the telly, with a wireless keyboard and mouse, hook it up to my wireless network, connect the audio to my stereo and stream stuff from my office PC. The fact that it boots up in seconds, like my Eee, will be very handy.

They're designed to be what Rinks has described so they have a purpose. I love Eee's, plan to get one when I need one, these look great as well.

Did I mention I'm selling my 701, one of the early models with the mini PCIE slot too? I can 'help' get XP on if you want.

I think I'm going to get one of their laptops in a few weeks, to those who've got one - is the web browsing just as good as on a normal Windows PC? No trouble using Flash and Java sites?

The only site I had any trouble with was the old BBC Radio Player, but that's been incorporated into the iPlayer now, and that works just fine. And that's using the Linux version of the machine.

I've had trouble using Java because I can't seem to get it installed properly using Linux. That's mainly to do with me not having a clue how to use Linux.

Nope, my EEE handles flash better than my more powerful Vista machine, but that's due to the Vista version of flash being gooseberry fool  Java is fine too.

The only stuff I have trouble with is videos on youporn :fp: If I use eeectl (an eee overclocking program) they work fine.

Asus really are whoring out the EEE brand a bit much while i think the idea of a EEE desktop is good they are making all manner of things with EEE in the title.
Ive got a 900 at the moment with xp on it very good machine perfect for web browsing. So much faster then my dell xps running vista

Great looking machine! However, it's woefully underpowered. And no, I'm not talking about games! It'd be great to use as a media centre, however there's no hardware decoding for HD media, and there's no way the CPU would be powerful enough to handle it via software.

Also, no HDMI out?

Think I'll wait for the next revision.

Another benefit of the EEE architecture is that it uses very little power in comparison to your average desktop PC. For use as a second machine dedicated to web-browsing or downloads, I reckon it's a VERY good idea.

Bit overpriced for that though, don't you think?
