Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration

Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration will include over 90 games spanning the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, ST, Jaguar and Lynx consoles... and six brand-new retro-reimagined titles. Coding is being undertaken by Digital Eclipse.

Nintendo Life wrote:The games will feature a variety of modern conveniences and filters. Given the developer's expertise with adding value to its compilation with supplementary 'museum'-style extras, the package apparently contains over 60 minutes of exclusive interviews with Atari developers and industry figures, with historical images and other assets also forming part of the experience.

I'm surprised to see ST, Jaguar (including Tempest 2000 and Cybermorph!) and Lynx titles, although I suspect the bulk of the package will be from the earlier systems.

I'm keen to see more of this!

I think that - unfortunately! - the game is locked in licensing hell, Godzilla.

This sounds really cool, basically the set up is it’s an interactive timeline, as you work along the time line of games you play the games through that

Most of the best 2600 games were by Activsion, are they on board for this? H.E.R.O. is one of the only 2600 games I could happily play for for than a few minute.

Looks like an Emulation Station theme.

Yeah, Activision did make some fantastic games for the VCS/2600 but I doubt they'll be included in this collection, Cumberdanes.

The early games are often extremely basic for folks without the nostalgia and those who are used to more modern games, but stuff like Adventure, Combat and Ghost House are still pretty fun.

I feel that a really interesting aspect is the Jag and Lynx games as I don't think they've ever been available outside of PC emulation.

This looks fantastic. I've been getting into retro collections recently, the Namco and Midway ones have been keeping my busy in the last month or so. Looking forward to this.

Play Cybermorph for a few minutes and you'll soon see.

This is interesting. I had a 2600 and a Lynx (though I’m not sure I would want to revisit any of those games for any extended period of time), but ST games overlapped heavily with the God tier Amiga. Will keep an eye on this.

I'm up for this. I was a little bit disappointed in the recent remakes of Centipede and Black Widow (free on Epic recently) as they seem to have really shonky controller support (BW in particular, making a twin stick shooter nigh on impossible to play!). I would love to have a go on this collection though. Online Combat could be incredible :toot:

Atari Mania is also due out later this year, it's supposedly Warioware but Atari themed.

I think rather than just the 2600 versions of games this should include the original arcade versions. For example Crystal Castles was a pretty decent arcade game but the 2600 version is just so basic.

Disappointed to not see arcade games being mentioned. Star Wars on this would be amazing.
