Or is drug testing random in the first place...?

Everyone is drug tested in athletics

Everyone? Is that a recent thing?

I mean, haven't there been cases of people being caught drug testing way down the line?

Yes, and they've had their records and championships rescinded, and have often been banned from the sport.

Yes because drugs are an evolutionary thing. Better detectors are found and they go back and recheck the samples (what happened to Dwain "the cheat" Chambers)

Ahhh right, sure. Thanks for enlightening me guys.

Must say Bolt is amazing. I'm not really into Athletics (far too many events, yawn), but what he can do is just stunning. I can't wait to see him in 2012, where I assume he will be even better...

Performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) can quite easily be masked, you can take such a small amount that they don't show up but still provide benefits, if someone tips you off than you can get clean before your test comes along, anti-doping tests aren't nearly as rigid as made out. Not to mention things like Human Growth Hormone (hGH) and Insulin-like growth-factor (IGF-1) cannot be tested for.

Everyone should download Bigger, Stronger, Faster it eliminates so many myths concerning PED usage.

As for whether Bolt takes any PED, he could just be a freak of nature, someone who comes along and changes the dominate bodytype for the sport, turning what once was considered a big weakness into the most useful advantage. I'd like to believe that's the case, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was using some sort of PED either as the guy is just too good!

If anyone sees a super slo-mo of that 100m, let me know. Bloody amazing. Hope I get to see him go below 9.5 in London.

Jessica's lovely.

Louise Hazel isn't bad either.

Impressive stuff from Bolt. Athletics needs someone like him if it's to overcome the drugs and the loss of interest in recent years.

Mind blown, just seen it.

I squeeled 9.58! At the top of my voice when I saw the time, I just don't know how that's possible. What surprised me this time was how fast he seemed to be going, sounds stupid but previously he's just glided across the track this time he was justfucking gunning it all the way.

Such an amazing guy as well. The only thing is the 100m is totally over now until Bolt retires and I just can't see anyone getting close to that record.

What fool said Athletics was boring

People speculated the same about Johnson's 19.32. Look what's happened twelve years later.

Can't believe he's still only 22.

Is there any indication of when a sprinter might peak?

Olympic Champions in the past all ran their best around 25-30

Tyson Gay who did himself a PB at a mind boggling 9.71 is 27

Its freaky to think how fast Bolt might go in the future when he peaks

Tyson Gay ran 9.71!
9.71 kids - that's still crazy fast

With Mr Bolt we have a problem - he is running super fast times but the 100m is no longer a race
After this it's like "Is Usain here?" "He is?" "Ok guys - we running for 2nd place"

9.58  literally WTBHF

I for one only hope I can get tickets for the 100m time trial at 2012

I just keep watching the race on BBC sport with what must a look of sheer wonder on my face. Absolutely breathtaking performance. Just smashed the record. To beat it by eleven hundredths/sec is ridiculous!

Im sure he can go faster too.
How long before he gets to 9.5 secs?
A different class is not nearly close to doing him justice. Poor Tyson Gay (no homo)! 9.71 secs and never had a glimpse of the gold medal. Its utterly strawberry floating preposterous!
