It's funny, because the album still stands up for me, and the singles work much better in that context than as standalone songs. They're almost certainly going back to being a 'rock' band again next time around though. :dread:

I actually really enjoyed the last album, as I've always liked the synthy stuff. Sure it's not quite as dark as some of the older stuff but perhaps the next one will be given the circumstances...

Cheers for the heads up. Did a voice search on Sky Q box and in fact there are 3 Muse programs available....
Simulation Theory gig (BBC2 Fri 11.20pm), Drones gig (Sky Arts 9pm tonight) and Live in Rome (on Demand). :datass:

We watched the Drones tour gig last night, brought back some great memories. A fair few of the songs shown were definitely from the gig we were at.

My photos from thst night:

Interestingly the tour footage has got faked stuff going on inside those floating ball things, because they definitely didn't have anything going on inside them, let along incredible 3D galaxies and stuff.

The Drones tour was great, probably my favourite Muse tour since Absolution.

I'd avoid watching the Simulation Theory tour film they did however, garbage selection of songs and all the dancers make it look tacky as hell.

Drones was a really cool tour on a staging level etc. I really loved how ambitious it was and how they pushed the boat out with the projector screens (the wires for the Handler was always a standout), the weird part where the band took to the stage flanked by these hardcore fake security guards, the big drone that usually failed and crashed into the audience during the Globalist... memories

I saw that show five times in a fortnight and still missed the songs they were rotating that I wanted to hear though (Apocalypse Please, Revolt, United States of Eurasia, Defector) and missed Assassin cos I bought for the 5th night instead of the 4th night in London (which at the time felt awful, but I saw them in Shepherd's Bush a year later and they opened with it :toot: ). But on the plus side I got Map a couple of times and Citizen Erased twice, so I guess that was okay. And like, let's be honest. There's never a bad Muse show. But... they're so frustrating to follow for songs.

I have pretty much no idea what either the last two album tours looked like because the last gig I bagged was the small Brighton show on the Psycho tour which was incredible.

I only got to see Muse live for the first time in 2019 on the Simulation Theory tour but I did manage to grab 2 gigs - outdoor at the Olympic Stadium in June on the same night as the Liverpool v Spurs Champions league Final, and then an indoor gig at Birmingham Arena in the Sept.

Enjoyed them both and defo see again. If we’re ever allowed out to gigs again

There's some Origin of Symmetry XX remix thing on spotify, not sure how long it's been out but I'm listening now. Seems to be a remastered version rather than there being any alterations. strawberry float me is it a good album!

Yeah it's been out a few weeks. There are a couple of strange things (the intro of Hyper Music is waaaaay too loud) but generally it's a massive improvement on the original. And yes, it's a colossal album, easily Muse's finest work.

It's not even close, I like/love some of their other albums but OoS is perfect.

It's just so good. I haven't listened to it in it's entirety for years. I remember before the drones tour properly started and they did that little Newport gig, they started playing loads of old stuff again and played bliss and hypermusic, so good.

They also added Futurism on the new version, which is a great track and should have been there from the start.

So a remaster taking the original stems and perhaps reflecting on the mixes and the overall sound? Overall, digital and analogue processing techniques taken equally, there are a lot more options these days, so it's an overall worthwhile excercise. Will definitely give it a listen.

I'm not always a fan of such things but I also think it's absurd to say that artists can't revisit material as it's not like the original album disappears  if anything the artist has the right to dig things up and do whatever the strawberry float they want with it. Preservationists in this context are :dread:

Listening to their more recent albeit much more heavily produced material (black holes was about the right balance) you can hear where the sound stage or clarify is lacking in the older albums but go back to showbiz etc and there's that raw energy. This should find a nice middle ground, and I've heard a lot of the old songs live decades after they were released and you can see how they have wanted to change a few things there too.

Although I doubt they've actually re recorded anything.

I don't think I've actually sat down and listened to one of their albums in its entirety for a hell of a long time so I'll definitely give this new XX edition a go.

I always recall thinking Absolution was my favourite but OoS is up there as well

OoS and Showbiz are their best two albums imo.

Yes one of them, and actual remaster in the real sense :toot:

Got absolution on now, some absolute tunes on there. Hysteria is always incredible but I forget how good Stockholm syndrome is too. Falling away with you is very U2 but actually good.

Falling away with you is an awesome glossy dreamy melancholy tune with heaps of nostalgia if you've, well, ever been in love.

I think it would be weird if they took that out now.

Especially when you go back and listen to other artists and it's included.

I reckon it's a deliberate part of the live sound as well. Sure maybe it gets picked up on a condenser mic more but you can't remove that live so why remove it from the album.

It's very annoying if you focus on it though
