I was surprised they were allowed to use the word Hell in an advert on daytime TV when I saw that one for the first time.

Why the hell wouldn't they?

It's always been one of those "not quite child friendly" words.

Then again Channel 5 run Wynona Erp adverts in the middle of the day with the phrase "Big Ass gun" so I guess what you can get away with in advertising has changed.

Adverts are just the worst. Those currently upsetting me are:

The strawberry floating Halifax adverts with the Flintstones in it
The strawberry floating walking football Barclays advert with that horrible strawberry floating horn music
The Kevin Bacon adverts for whatever gooseberry fool he's hawking
That strawberry floating Lloyds advert with the piano music from Mad World
Every single mobile phone advert

I think a lot of adverts are so irritating that I switch off completely and don't even know what product they're selling anymore. I know advertisers probably make their adverts annoying deliberately just so they're more noticeable and you associate it with products but I think it's gone too far now and is not having the desired effect on me as much. Anyone else find that?

We're apparently watching more adverts than ever before in our modern society, despite the fast-forward/skip them on YouTube culture.

Is that because the ad loads before you can skip? Does that count as a watch?

Probably because a lot of people use catch up services and you can't skip them.

I don't really watch live TV anymore, but Sky's current trend of taking stars/characters from upcoming films and making them talk about broadband is strawberry floating infuriating, especially the Xmen one from a while back.

I've never seen so much wrong condensed into only 7 words.

Agreed, it can't be THAT cheap and coupled with the stupid prices rises every 6 months, you can why there's a huge churn at Sky.

It really cheapens the characters for me, surely Disney don't need the cash that much that they have to have the Toy Story characters hawking broadband.

Yup. To be honest, it killed any faint desire I had to see Apocalypse. "You mean the public's first real glimpse of this new character will be her lying on a couch talking about internet speeds? SOLD!"

Urgh.

We are apparently (this was some research presented at a meeting with no reason to lie) watching more complete adverts, adverts in general and also are apparently more reactive to those adverts and buying products than ever before.

The only time I 'watch' a complete advert is if I'm using my Fire TV stick or PlayStation to watch 4 on Demand or Sky Go.
Even then I just ignore it until it's done.

Adverts are the reason I find it almost impossible to watch live TV anymore. I'd rather record something on Sky+ so I can skip the adverts.
You don't even have to really watch after everyone else. Just skip the first 15 minutes of a 'one hour' program and start watching the recording. By the time you skip the stupid strawberry floating adverts you'll finish the show at the same time as everyone else.

I wonder if this research is anything like Facebook's internal 'everyone is definitely watching your adverts' claim that turned out to be bullshit.
