As a self professed coffee arsehole, I do love me a good hipster cafe. Manchester was full of them and almost all served a cracking brew in lovely surroundings. Yes you have to deal with the Tarquins and the Florences but it's more than worth it for a decent place to hole up for an hour or so with a book and/or Macbook (NO WINDOWS LAPTOPS ALLOWED).

Speaking of McDonald's I can end that stupid 'Is it still a Big Mac?' advert/campaign right now as I tried one the other day.

It's still a Big Mac. Why? Because you can't actually taste the bacon there's so little of it compared to everything else that makes up the sandwich.

Blue Eyes wrote:Those strawberry floating McDonalds McCafe adverts boil my piss. Creating a false image of independent coffee shops as smug and superior in order to sell their shitty coffee to banana splits. Sure, coffee is expensive in some of these hipster cafes. But don't give me this gooseberry fool about them scoffing that someone doesn't know what a flat white is or that they will try to bore you with science. It's just so Brexit. All McDonalds adverts are disgusting, which is appropriate considering the absolute dreck they sell.

For a while the feel of McDonald's and its marketing has felt in line with the likes of The Sun in peddling a kind of mass ignorance.

If it isn't scoffing at pretentious independent coffee shops when real people just them want to get on with it using some fast food franchise brew, it's rolling their eyes at parents concerned about the quality of the cheap food in their kids' Happy Meals.

"Here we go, fake news about 'freak beef' and McNuggets made of offcuts, what will they worry about next?!" as if there isn't at least a truth to these in the history of McDonald's as a global company.

Urgh, strawberry float that place. The Manchester equivalent, Black Milk, realised almost instantly that the whole premise was ridiculous and shifted to making insanely decadent milkshakes instead.

I actually worked for a marketing company and ran a campaign for Oral B at one point (so I'm allowed to find their ads strawberry floating awful).

A lot of legal discussions went on about the word "inspired". You can't say "designed" by dentists, because their was technically noone on the design team that was qualified, so you end up having to use a word ofcom won't get funny about.

Toothbrush ads are also some of the ones most guilty of another annoying advertising trend - the terrible dub.

So many of these ads were clearly recorded in another language and then dubbed over in English with no attempt to cover up the fact!
