PostBack/Posture strengthening exercises
by Curls » Thu May 06, 2010 12:42 pm

My back and posture are in a right state from years of video games.

So I was just wondering if anyone knows any good exercises or routines I can do once or twice a day to get my posture reasonable again. Any links to websites would be appreciated...or feel free to try and explaoin it to me. ;)

As good as any specific stuff is just playing sports and exercising. Trying to strengthen your back in isolation would be tricky and may be injurious.

I did but I got a bit seasick. :( Plus I didn't want to lose a leg just to look harder.

I'm not much of a sportman, but I do already swim once or twice a week. I feel that this however is not enough.

In terms of something to work towards, a Coach I spoke to said that the exercise he uses to help correct "office" posture is the overhead squat. It's a pretty advanced exercise and you'll have to go super light to start - as in use a Broomstick first, but it's something to work towards. You'll definitely find out which bits of you aren't flexible the first time you try it, especially back and shoulders.

Obviously do these in combination with a balanced training routine.

Something I do at work is put something small between your mid/upper back and the chair and keep it lightly pressed there, if you slump forward, it drops.
