That’s cool! Do you know anyone who worked on Rare Replay or Perfect Dark Zero?

I've met plenty of Rare Replay fellas around the studio (when we're at the studio, of course, as opposed to The Current Situation). Not bumped into too many that worked on PDZ, but I did have a lovely chat with the lovely Wil Overton just before Christmas. He's lovely.

HI! And yeah, bit obvious, but it's better than having no post! Plus I get to see people all riled up because we dare to talk about Nuts & Bolts like it was a good game (it was a good game).

That was when we were still on teamspeak/vent right? Holy gooseberry fool that was so long ago. I think I was even still using Xfire back then.

Thanks Trooper, you just reminded me LLC existed and I was on there for ages. I completely forgot.

I can't see any of the images on here, is it broken for anyone else?

Go ahead though if they are working Dala. I just want to see the creations (and then why I had a rep for being so bad at this!)

I know the content is posted freely and technically publicly available, but still, that falls under copyright co-authorship status by default if not otherwise specified. If someone creates something using the tools available in a commercial product that they have purchased then technically it is still their property, however it is then licensed on, wholly or exclusively or whatever. It's fair use, at least, but it should have been credited in each case to the users from a moral standpoint. Surely the terms and conditions for uploading images directly to Rare's platform (that as far as I can tell, they weren't) perhaps would no longer be valid?

The screenshots were posted here by an individual.

It's really cool to post content like that again that's featured on our extensive archives, but at least mention the people who chose to create, share and continue to host the context around it equally before recycling it for a subsidiary of Microsoft. I think Dalagonash did curate together the screenshots in the first place which is fair enough but, that's a part role in the authenticity and conception of these images. It's a courtesy to acknowledge that.

Yeah sure, a corporate-owned Twitter account with 250,000 followers. Marginally popular.

You could have been a little more transparent while we're an inherently dying medium with 487 followers on our most popular channel that's been there since March 2009 - 3 months before @RareLtd. It probably is a bit rich to stick to this given that this topic was your idea, but still, how hard could it have been to attach a mention to that tweet for the collective that facilitated it? It's this site that brought us together to make cool stuff just like this, it seems wrong to forego it.

If those images were just sitting on your hard drive for 10 years then I guess that's fair enough, you could do with them as you like but as an employee of a corporate the onus is slightly greater to give credit where it is due. Not you, the company, in this case MS Game Studios.

Can't believe I'm whining about this when I used to have letters published on Rare's "Scribes" webpage! I think that is probably where my misgiving is coming from, Rare probably are/were my favourite developer of all time. I'll go away now.

(I know this is a bit rich, coming from me, but...) It’s the somewhat sneering tone I don’t like, both in that tweet above and the follow up, as well as being dismissive of the creators.

Tbh I didn't really read into that, for a long time the "tone" from Rare's PR has been one that doesn't really take anything seriously as if having a website is a joke forced upon the entire team of otherwise well-meaning game making goblins that they work on during their lunch breaks (I'm pretty sure I've read some copy exactly to that effect) but, yeah, you're probably right. It's kinda like British games magazines / 90s sort of dialogue that is uniquely British and always sarcastic, never quite cynical, but certainly reads that way from some angles.

But really, it's a weird game that was very divisive 10 years ago, that doesn't mean fans didn't support the game and create nice content in it so some appreciation besides, "oh god we have to post something on Twitter" wouldn't go amiss
